Kara opened the drawer and took out a stack of photos.
She had seen those photos before. They were taken on their engagement, but she was too nervous at that time to see them carefully.
On a photo, James held her face, absorbed in a kiss with closed eyes.
However, her eyes were full of astonishment. Others might think that she is shy.
Thinking of the farce on the engagement, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Her fingertips swept across the man's handsome face, his sharp out-lined profile, and finally, his lips. Then she quickly drew back her hand as if being scalded and placed the photo back in the drawer.
And then, she found a strange photo of her and Eli.
It should be Eli went to talk to her. But from the perspective of the camera, it seemed that they were whispered.
Why would James have this photo? Could it be that he had been sending people to stalk her? Kara frowned and felt strange.
Suddenly, another ridiculous thought flashed through her mind. Would it be that James took the two photos for comparison?
Sometimes, James was really childish!
Underneath was a stack of documents in an old folder. She carefully took it out and opened it. It was a woman's information.
Vivian Joyce.
There was a black-and-white photo of a beautiful and elegant woman.
When she found that some of the documents was dyed red by something looked like bloodstains, her back broke out in a cold sweat. She quickly put the document back.
She got up and took the laptop away, but saw the sticky note on the back.
"I will give you the education on the bed in the future."
"How could he put it that way..."
Kara felt she was driven crazy.
Holding the USB flash disk, her face turned red. She threw it into the trash can and carried the computer back to the bedroom.
Kara opened the USB that Donald gave her, there was a series of documents named by date in it. She clicked on the date and a girl's smiling face appeared.
"Donald, this is Nicole! I went out and had fun today. However, maybe I have too much fun and now I catch a cold. Donald, I'm sorry."
Kara pressed pause. The girl had a small oval face and a pair of slanted starry eyes. Her nose was delicate and her lips were pale. She seemed to be a mixed-blood.
But she looked haggard and pale, seeming to be sick. Kara felt like looking at herself three months ago.
A strange feeling rose in her heart, and she pointed to the next date.
"Donald, I don't want to leave you, but I am really painful."
The girl said as she cried. Then then camera shook, as if it was interrupted. Kara was curious and clicked on the next date.
"Donald, I am wrong. I will never hurt myself again. Donald, I am sorry!"
"Donald, I just want to see you before I leave this world. If you don't want to see me, I can look at you from a distance. I wish I can watch you while I leave this world."
Kara clicked on several dates in a row, guessing that this might be the girl's last words.
But what made her curious was that the girl would always end the video with one sentence.
"Donald, I'm sorry!"
Puzzled, she took out her phone and was about to ask Donald when her phone vibrated. She pressed the answer button and saw that it was Eli.
She slapped her hand in frustration.
"Kara."
Eli called her name softly, as if afraid of disturbing her.
"It's me. What's the matter?" Kara took a deep breath and replied calmly.
"Kara, I'm sorry. I had just known that Ronin went to find trouble with you." He was full of apology and his voice sounded nervous.
"Kara, did they scare you?"
"Why?"
Kara was puzzled. Where had she changed?
"You've grown up. In the past, you were very timid. Sometimes, I would worry that if I spoke to you too harshly, I would scare you." Eli thought back.
Kara used to be soft and timid, and could easily rise others' will to protect her.
Now, Kara became eloquent and confident. Although she was still shy easily, she would keep her chin up. Her graceful demeanor was now more eye-catching.
"Eli, you are deliberately reminding me about my previous flaws, right?"
Kara laughed mischievously. The tense between the two of them was instantly dissipated.
Kara bit her finger in deep thought. Now that he mentioned it, she suddenly realized that how she had changed during the recent days.
In the past, she was sick and weak. She felt she was inferior to other kids because her parents had left her early. She always kept her head low.
Now that she had been redressed by James, who asked her to raise her head when she talk. And she spoke louder than before.
"It's because of James." Eli asked.
"What?"
Kara did not understand what he meant at first. When she grasped it, she was shocked and speechless for a long time.
If it wasn't for James, she might have been killed by her relatives three months ago. It was impossible for her to get into university, let alone become so confident.
Suddenly, she heard a suggestion from her phone. She had missed a call just now.
She hung up the phone and checked the call records. It was James calling her.
And he had called her twice!
With James's overbearing personality, he would definitely throw a tantrum when he learnt that she missed his calls while talking with Eli.
Her fingertips trembled as she tried to think of an excuse.
Unfortunately, James did not give her a chance.
