It was as if Katherine's alarm went off at the exact time she finally found sleep. With her head pounding as hell, she dragged herself out of bed and proceeded to the bathroom. She did her morning rituals after which she changed into her robe and exited her room.
Instead of going straight to her mother's room, Kathie decided to get something to quench her thirst. She made her way down the stairs, then straight to the kitchen.
"You look sleep deprived." A voice came through the moment Katherine set her foot in the kitchen.
"You have no idea," Kathie mumbled, taking careful steps into the kitchen.
"Come have some food. Then you go dress up."
"I'm not hungry. A cup of coffee is fine."
"I'd advise that you take something. No matter how small. It's gonna be a busy day. You would be serving your mom so just take care of yourself this morning."
"I'm not craving anything."
"Sit. I'll make you something in a few."
Katherine had no strength to argue or refuse so she obeyed. She located the stool by the counter, sat on it, and stared at nothing in particular.
"I take it that yesterday didn't go well," Magda said, reaching for some raw eggs.
Katherine sighed, massaging her temple.
"I really looked down on the so-called father of my kids. He hasn't made any decisions but he wants to see them and with all that has happened, I think he's going to want to be in their lives."
"I feel my life is not going to remain the same again. I'm not so ready for this new development and I feel it's going to affect my relationship with Lewis."
"I'm sorry things are not going the way you planned. But still, I want you to do whatever you do with an open mind. Have a clear intention and you will be fine. I believe life cannot give you more than you can handle."
"Life has not always been fair to me."
"Don't say so darling. This is a phase that will pass and you'll be happy again." She stole a glance at Kathie before going back to breaking the eggs.
"I know you're happy about it. The fact that Oliver knows about them."
"In as much as I would choose you over him, I'm happy about it. You've been blessed with amazing children who deserve their fatherly love."
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Ollie doesn't even love himself enough. I wonder what he has left to give the triplets."
"Some men are like that but situations change them."
"I don't care about all of that. I just want him to return to Australia so I can move on with my life.
"He will definitely return since he has an empire over there. I just wonder how he's gonna cope if he decides he wants to be there for his Children. Australia is really far."
"I hope that prompts him to stay away forever."
Magda glanced at Kathie before turning her attention back to the egg she was frying. "Sorry but the man I met yesterday doesn't look like someone that gives up easily"
"I see. You're on the same page as Michelle. You all are choosing Oliver over me."
A small smile crept to Magda's lips. "Don't be jealous. You know I'll always have your back. We just want what's best for you darling."
Katherine massaged her temple, trying to chase away an imaginary headache that was building up on her forehead. "I need a vacation."
"How's mom doing? Have you seen her this morning?"
"Yeah," Magda answered, serving her some egg along with some bacon she prepared earlier.
"She's good, excited for her wedding but she has refused to eat anything. She said she wants to fit into her wedding dress perfectly."
Katherine rolled her eyes at Magda's statement. "I'm not surprised. That's so Beatrice. Thank goodness I've not started feeling bad. I was scared she would be in a cranky mood because of what happened yesterday."
Placing a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice on the counter before her, Magda chuckled. "You know your mother has been working so hard for today. I'm sure she wouldn't let anything or anyone ruin her day."
"Oh really?" Bea exclaimed, faking to be surprised.
"Why don't you wanna talk to me? You didn't even reply to my greetings."
"One more word from you and I'm gonna fire you as my bridesmaid."
Kathie smiled, "I would love to see you bridesmaid-less for the wedding."
Beatrice rolled her eyes, stood up from the chair, and approached her dressing table. A proud smile crept to her lips when She saw her reflection in the mirror.
"You look very gorgeous; the most beautiful bride I've ever set my eyes on." She heard her daughter say as she approached her where she stood.
Beatrice sighed, then turned around to face Kathie. Folding her arms, She spoke, "What do you want?"
Katherine shrugged. She was just a few steps away from her mother. "Today marks a new beginning in your life and you know keeping malice isn't my thing."
"Sorry about yesterday if you felt offended."
"What do you want, Katherine?"
Kathie frowned.
"I'm your mother. We may not have the best of everything but I know you so damn well. You never apologize, remember?"
"Stop exaggerating, mom. I apologize when I'm in the wrong."
"Exactly! When you're in the wrong. You of all people hardly play with me so enough of the eye service and say whatever is on your mind or hold your peace forever."
Katherine sighed. "Oliver never refuses you."
"I knew it!" Beatrice shook her head in disbelief.
