Chapter 371
As soon as Brian left, the reception area erupted.
“I’m doomed. Why didn’t you warn me earlier?” Renee, caught red–handed eating breakfast at her desk, was totally distraught.
‘Why am I so unlucky? I only eat at my desk once in a while, and somehow Mr. Atkinson caught me. So unlucky, she thought.
“I did. The second I noticed, I patted you while staring right into Mr. Atkinson’s sharp eyes, didn’t I?” Holly sounded wronged.
She wasn’t faring any better than Renee. ‘If Brian saw Renee eating, he must’ve seen me chatting with Renee too, Holly thought sadly.
Renee knew she couldn’t blame Holly, and that just made her feel more down.
“Mr. Atkinson told me to go to his office alone,” Renee said. “I’m definitely getting fired this time. Oh, no, I really don’t want to leave Atkinson Group.”
The company had great benefits, and she got to gush over the couple in person. Where else would she find a job this good?
Renee thought sadly, ‘Mr. Atkinson, I really know I was wrong. Please give me another chance.’
“Hurry up. Don’t keep Mr. Atkinson waiting,” Holly said. “When you come out, I’ll send you the headhunter I know.” She also figured Renee probably wouldn’t be staying.
Atkinson Group had great benefits, but it also had strict rules.
The employee handbook clearly said no eating at workstations. Renee had not only broken the rule but been caught red–handed by Brian. Things definitely wouldn’t end well.
Holly thought, ‘My own quarterly bonus might not even be safe.‘
The more she thought about it, the sadder she got. ‘Why didn’t I hear Mr. Atkinson’s footsteps sooner?‘ Holly thought.
Renee nearly burst into tears when she heard Holly’s words, but she managed to hold it in. Still, when she walked into Brian’s office, her face looked really bad.
Brian glanced at her and couldn’t help asking, “Didn’t you eat enough?”
Renee jolted, shaking her head right away. “N–No, I ate enough.”
She wondered, ‘Mr. Atkinson is asking about me? That’s concern, right?‘
Renee could barely believe it. But what came next made her doubt her sanity even more,
Brian nodded slightly and spoke up. “Good. Oh, by the way, your breakfast looked good. Can you give me the address of the place where you bought it?”
“Huh?” Renee was completely stunned. ‘That’s it?‘ she wondered.
“Can’t do that?” Brian raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, I can.” Renee shook her head wildly and quickly blurted out the full address.
Brian noted it down and gave her an approving look. “Thanks. Go to the finance department and pick up a 200–dollar bonus.”
He decided he’d head to that shop later to buy breakfast for Jessica.
Renee was in a total daze. She couldn’t even remember how she left Brian’s office.
It was Holly’s concerned voice that brought her back. “You okay? Did Mr. Atkinson yell at you?”
