Chapter 466
So that’s why they got married in a flash.
Suddenly, everything clicked for Ivy. The logic made perfect sense now.
After all, why else would Mr. Jamison–someone with such status and prestige–have stayed single all these years, only to instantly fall for a woman like her? Someone who’d been missing for three years, discarded by her family, her reputation ruined–what could possibly have drawn him in?
Lost in thought, Ivy nodded to herself, not even realizing she was doing it.
Jamison caught her pensive look. With a faint, teasing smile, he turned to her and asked, “What do you think? Do I really look like there’s something wrong with me?”
“How would I know? I don’t know the first thing about men,” Ivy shot back, eyeing him up and down. “But if you do have a problem, I won’t hold it against you. After all, you didn’t hold my past against me.”
Jamison’s smile grew more enigmatic. “Alright, if you think I have issues, then let’s just say I do. Doesn’t matter either way. What matters is, after what I said today, they’ll believe it’s my problem–I’m the one who can’t have kids. That way, they’ll stop pressuring you. They might even feel guilty, like they’ve wronged you, and start treating you more politely.”
Ivy’s conviction wavered again after hearing this. “Wait, what do you mean? So you lied to them?”
“I said it’s not important,” Jamison said, still smiling as he reached out and gently tousled her hair. “Come on, I’ll drive you back to campus.”
“There’s no need. I can drive myself. You’re busy–one round trip takes half a day.”
Ignoring her protest, Jamison spun the wheel and pulled out of the parking lot.
Ivy had no choice but to let him have his way.
On the drive, she mulled over everything Jamison had said, analyzing it from every angle. No matter how she looked at it, the logic held up–and that only left her more confused.
“If
you really do have a problem, you should go get it treated,” she said at last.
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
“How’s your mom doing? When will she be discharged?”

Chapter 760
“She should be able to go home this weekend. Recovering at home isn’t much different.”
After all, the family doctor stopped by every day, and he was a physician himself. He could check on her whenever he wanted.
Ivy nodded. “Alright, I’ll come visit her after my exams this weekend.”
Jamison glanced over his shoulder with a smile. “You’re slipping into the daughter–in–law role pretty quickly.”
Ivy rolled her eyes, feigning annoyance. “So what, you’d rather I ignore your family and not care at all?”
“That’s not it. My point’s never changed: don’t force yourself to do anything you don’t want to. Whether it’s my family or my coworkers, you don’t need to put on a show for my sake. If you don’t like someone, you’re under no obligation to be polite. I’d feel more pressure if you did.”
In other words, if she didn’t want to visit the Ludwig estate, she didn’t have to. She didn’t need to pretend to be the perfect daughter–in–law or do anything just for
appearances.
