Chapter 69 You Are Foolish
Sean said,“While rainbow roses are certainly precious, they’re not as valuable as you’re making them out to be.
“Besides, I didn’t drop the petals on purpose–didn’t they fall off on their own?”
Sean wondered if the petals would have fallen off if Celeste hadn’t touched the rose.
He thought about what would happen if Isolde found out they had damaged her rainbow rose–she could get really upset.
Even worse, he feared it might ruin their chances with her and cause her to refuse to mentor them.
Just as Isolde finished her surgery and entered the office, she saw Celeste and Sean sitting on her expensive sofa. “What are you two doing?” she asked.
Isolde thought, ‘This sofa is not for just anyone to sit on!‘
Isolde walked toward Celeste and Sean, and upon seeing Celeste sitting on the sofa, she furrowed her brow. “What’s going on here?”
Before Isolde could speak, Celeste stood up and introduced herself. “Hello, Dr. Huxley. I’m Celeste Sinclair, an intern from Crestwood College.
“He is my partner, Sean McCullough. We’ll be working with you during our internship, and we look forward to learning from you.”
Isolde immediately recognized that Celeste didn’t want to reveal her true identity.
It worked out well for Isolde, too. She didn’t want to expose her true identity, fearing that all the sycophants who flattered her would come crawling back once it was known.
Isolde thought, ‘I won’t be able to handle the overwhelming shift in attention if my true identity is revealed!
Isolde smiled and extended her hand to Celeste. “Hello, Celeste! And you too, Sean. Do you both know what you’ll be doing during your internship with me?”
Aren’t interns just supposed to follow the attending physician, see patients, and help with whatever needs doing?
Celeste thought, ‘I don’t want to do this, but I have no choice if I want to pass the internship.‘
She answered without emotion, “Yes, we’ll do whatever Dr. Huxley instructs us to.”
“I can tell this isn’t your first internship, so there’s no need for me to teach you everything. Find the person handing out uniforms, and once you’re changed, come back to me,” Isolde said.
Celeste and Sean both nodded in acknowledgment, and just as Celeste was about to leave, Isolde suddenly called out to stop her.
“I need to speak with Celeste alone for a moment, Sean. You can go ahead and get changed,” Isolde said.
Sean glanced between Celeste and Isolde, mistakenly thinking that Isolde had kept Celeste back because they had accidentally knocked off a petal from her rainbow rose. Unable to hold back, he quickly spoke up to explain.
“Dr. Huxley, Celeste didn’t mean to knock off the petals from your rainbow rose. I hope you can forgive her and not be upset.” Isolde hadn’t noticed the petals had fallen from her rainbow rose at first, but after Sean pointed it out, she immediately saw the damage.
Her face darkened with anger–this was the rainbow rose she had spent so much time finding through a friend, worth over 300 thousand dollars each.
Usually, she only watered it and never dared to touch it. Yet, Celeste had come along and knocked off the petals from her most beloved rose.
Isolde thought to herself that Celeste was more trouble than she was worth.
If it had been anyone else, she would have lost her temper by now, but since it was Celeste who had knocked off the petals of her rainbow rose, she had to hold it in.
“Since you’re saying that Celeste didn’t intentionally damage the petals, I have no reason to stay upset. Go ahead and change into your uniform,” Isolde said.
Sean, noticing how reasonable Isolde was, felt even more favorable toward her. “Alright.”
After Sean left, Isolde rushed over to her rose.
Successfully unlocked!en off, her heart sank with regret.
word
Isolde yelled, “Celeste, this rainbow rose means he won to me: i parciy even touch it, just water it. But you come over, not only touch it but knock off two petals!
“Do you have any clue how much this plant is worth? 300 thousand dollars! And those two petals? They’re worth at least 30 thousand bucks!”
Chapter 69 You Are Foolish
Celeste blinked in disbelief. She thought, What is this? Each petal is worth 30 thousand dollars? Is Isolde always this wasteful with her parents‘ money?
‘Spending over 300 thousand dollars on a pot of flowers that’s been artificially dyed?
Celeste had carefully inspected the flower earlier. While it looked like a rainbow rose, the moment a petal fell, she caught a faint medicinal scent.
The chemicals used to dye flowers were well–known–adding them to the soil made them bloom in vibrant colors. So, while it appeared to be a rainbow rose, it wasn’t indeed one.
The cost of the dye and the rose itself barely added up to a few hundred dollars.
Yet, Isolde had spent over 300 thousand dollars on this worthless flower. It seemed like such a waste of money.
Celeste settled back down on the sofa, crossing her legs. “If you don’t mind me asking, how much do you make each month?”
It was undoubtedly a bold question.
