Chapter 3 Apologize
The doctors were completely taken aback by what they heard.
Dr. King was this mysterious miracle doctor who could supposedly bring people back to life and had found cures for leukemia. Also known as Wesley’s mentor.
“This can’t be right!”
They started grilling Celeste. “How can you be Dr. King at such a young age? Do you have any proof of your identity? If not, we can’t let you take care of Mr. Hale.”
“I can prove that.” Just then, Adrian, who had prepped the operating room, walked in. “I can confirm that the woman in front of you is Dr. King!”
Even after Adrian’s declaration, the doctors weren’t convinced. “Adrian, you just came in with her. How can we trust you? Your proof isn’t credible!”
Adrian held his ground, his frustration showing. “If my words aren’t enough, then when Dr. Paige gets here, won’t it be fine to ask him if she’s really Dr. King? Come on, guys! If you waste time, Marcus might not make it!”
The doctors shot glances at the dying Marcus and then Celeste, and they finally decided to take a leap of faith.
“Okay, you can operate on Mr. Hale, but you have to promise us that if he dies because of your treatment, you’ll take full responsibility!”
Celeste, desperate to save Marcus, didn’t hesitate to agree. “I promise, if anything goes wrong, I’ll take the blame.” With that, she turned to Adrian. “You’re coming with me to the operating room to help out.”
“Got it,” he replied.
And with that, Adrian and Celeste wheeled Marcus into the operating room for surgery.
Just as the two entered the operating room, Flora Paige pulled into the hospital parking lot.
She was Wesley’s granddaughter and a top–notch surgeon at Ravenshire Hospital.
Today, she happened to be in Kingston for a seminar but rushed over when she heard that something had happened to Marcus and that Wesley couldn’t make it in time.
When she arrived, she learned that Marcus had already been wheeled into surgery.
Flora frowned and confronted the doctors waiting outside, saying, “My grandfather told me Marcus was hurt so badly that
his heart and lungs were damaged and that he would need both heart and lung surgeries to pull through.
“Now, with my grandfather not here and you guys waiting outside, who exactly is operating on Marcus right now?”
Everyone knows Flora as the pride of the Paige family at Ravenshire–Wesley’s favorite granddaughter.
So, when they were faced with her question, the doctors were hesitant to lie. “It’s Dr. King,” one of them finally admitted. Flora’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Dr. King? My grandfather’s mentor?”
“That’s what she said, but we can’t be entirely sure it’s really her,” another doctor chimed in.
‘What does that even mean? They just handed Marcus over to this person for treatment without confirming whether she’s the real Dr. King? Flora pondered, her frustration boiling over.
She slapped the closest doctor in front of her. “If anything happens to Marcus because of you guys, I swear I’ll make you pay!”
The doctors fell silent, clearly intimidated.
Flora tried to push her way into the operating room to save Marcus but found the door locked tight.
‘This is a joke! I don’t care if this Dr. King is legit or not. If she does anything to hurt Marcus, I’m going to let her have it!‘ she thought.
In the operating room, Adrian was helping Celeste as she worked on Marcus.
“Wipe the sweat, Celeste instructed.
“Hand me the pliers.”
“Scissors, please.”
“Stitches.”
“We’re running low on plasma–switch out the bag.”
Celeste was giving orders professionally and Adrian

Marcus and then returned to assist her. They made a great team, and the hours flew by.
Three hours later, Celeste wrapped up the tricky surgery and left Adrian to handle the stitches. As she stepped out of the operating room, she was ready to tell the waiting crowd that the surgery had gone well.
Suddenly, Flora rushed up and slapped her, nearly knocking off her mask.
“You’re the one who pretended to be Dr. King and operated on Marcus, right? What did you do to him?” Flora shouted.
Celeste shot back with a slap. The crowd gasped. They couldn’t believe this nobody had actually slapped Wesley’s granddaughter.
Flora’s face turned bright red from the slap as she covered the side of her face that had been struck and glared at Celeste.” How dare you hit me?”
Celeste gave Flora another slap, saying, “That’s what you get.”
Everyone in the crowd was in disbelief. ‘This girl really has the nerve to slap Miss Paige twice?’ they thought.
Flora had never been so humiliated in her twenty–four years. Grinding her teeth, she ordered her bodyguard, “Arrest this impostor and take her to the police station. I’m going to sue her for fraud and practicing medicine without a license!”
“Got it, Miss Paige,” her bodyguard replied.
Just as Celeste was about to strike again, someone shouted from the crowd, “Stop it!”
A man in a white doctor’s coat with grey hair pushed through the crowd. It was Wesley.
A crowd of people stepped aside for him, and Wesley strode right up to Flora, slapping her across the face while she stood there, hurt and furious.
