The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 78

As Lyra drove through the city, she did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Everyone was going about their business as usual, and she saw a few patrol guards along the streets.

There was no sign that there had been an attack, and she could not sense any suspicious foreigners.

Had she been overthinking? Maybe her wolf's capabilities were not fully consistent yet, which explained why she could not reach the others through her mind.

It was also possible that Zero, Beryl, and Anna were sent on a mission somewhere else when Zero and Beryl got back to the palace. If they were in remote borderlands, it would explain why they were unreachable.

Convincing herself that it was all a coincidence, she felt her worry subsiding a bit. She arrived at the palace gates without incident and waited to be let through.

However, instead of being allowed in, one of the guards walked up to her car. When she lowered her window, he asked what she wanted in an aggressive manner.

Lyra frowned. All the palace guards knew who she was, and they would let her through without question. But the guard was not familiar to her, so he must be new and might not know her identity.

“I'm Lyra Jenkins, a member of the King's Guard. I'm coming back from a mission,” she told him.

The guard raised his brow and scoffed, eyeing her suspiciously. “Yeah, right. And I'm the king’s cup bearer. This is not the place to play your silly jokes, sweetheart.”

Lyra sat back in her seat and looked around the gate. “Where is the head guard?”

“The head guard is busy,” he told her. “How about you show me some identification?”

“What identification?” she asked.

The guard sneered. “So you thought you'd just come to the palace, drop a title, and we’d let you in? Do you think this is a bar?”

“What's going on here?” another guard asked, walking up to the car.

“We have someone here claiming to be the king's personal guard,” the guard said.

“What's your business in the palace?” the other guard asked. “We have no time for jokes, so you better state your business or leave.”

Looking at his badge, Lyra realised he was the head guard. The problem was he was unfamiliar to her too. Why had the guards been changed? These two had not even been part of the royal guards. If new guards were to be installed at the gate, they would have to be members of the royal guard.

“Call the palace and confirm my identity,” she told them.

“If you don't have the proper identification, we cannot let you through,” the head guard maintained. “If you don't leave right away, we'll arrest you.”

“Get me through to Alpha Zero,” she told them. “He'll confirm my identity. If I'm lying, feel free to throw me in the dungeon.”
