The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 31

It took Lyra three days to go through the heat and another two days to recover in the aftermath. When she went back to the academy after a week’s absence, Beryl was waiting excitedly for her.

“Well, hello there,” Beryl greeted her, her eyes glinting with amusement. “You look so much better than the last time I saw you.”

Lyra took a seat next to Beryl, her face flushing. It was embarrassing that her new friend had seen her in such a state. “Thank you for that night,” she told Beryl. “For healing me.”

Beryl waved her hand dismissively. “You don’t need to thank me for that.” Then, she leaned closer to Lyra, folding her arms on her desk comfortably. She wiggled her brows. “So, have you been with Julian all this time?”

Lyra’s face became hotter, and she looked around anxiously, afraid that someone could hear them. When she saw that no one was paying attention to them, she turned to Beryl and pressed a finger to her lips. “Shh.”

But Beryl was not to be silenced. She had wondered all week and wanted to find out the real relationship between her cousin the Lycan King and her new friend. Rather than stay silent, she lowered her voice to a whisper. “Come on, tell me. What’s going on between you two?”

“Nothing,” Lyra said, fidgeting with her fingers. “He was just helping me out.”

Lyra’s eyes landed on Crystal, who was conversing with a couple of other students. That’s right, Julian was just helping her out. She might be his mate, but she was not the one he intended to mate and keep by his side.

“He’s your mate, isn’t he?” Beryl questioned. “He was so concerned about you that night, and the way he looked at you…it was all consuming.”

A fluttery feeling rose deep within Lyra’s chest. Had he really? She fought the urge to ask Beryl if she truly thought that.

“He was just being kind,” Lyra said. It sounded ridiculous to her, because Julian was often anything but kind to her.

Before Beryl could say anything else, the clamour in the class died down suddenly. Lyra looked up and saw Principal Sterling walk to the front of the class. He scrutinised the class with sharp eyes which finally landed on Crystal Black.

“Crystal Black,” he called put, “you have been expelled from the Royal Academy and you must leave immediately.” His eyes moved over the rest of the class. “Let this be a warning to all of you. Your status does not excuse you from the school rules. Any indiscipline will be handled seriously according to the school rules, so I urge all of you to be on your best behaviour. That’s all. Miss Black, you have five minutes to vacate the premises.”

After that, the principal left. The class erupted in whispers. Lyra looked at Beryl in confusion. “What did she do?”

“She tried to sabotage other people’s training,” Beryl said. “She wanted to come first.”

“Oh,” Lyra said, looking at Crystal. She could totally see her doing something like that. Lyra was glad to find out that the Royal Academy was indeed without bias when it came to enforcing its rules.

“The king will hear of this,” Crystal said as she shouldered her bag. She looked around, sneering at the rest of her classmates. “I’m his future queen. Nobody can throw me out.”

The class fell into a hush as Crystal stomped her way out of the room. As soon as she was gone, the chatter picked up again. Inside, Lyra was relieved at the turn of events. With Crystal gone, her life at the training camp was likely going to get much easier.

The next morning, while Lyra made her way to the school, she came across Crystal getting ready to leave the palace. Apparently, Julian had not only not helped her get back into the training camp, but he had also ordered her to leave the palace.

The moment Crystal saw her, her face twisted in pure indignation. Lyra wished to continue on her way, but Crystal had other ideas. She stepped into Lyra’s path, forcing her to come to a stop.

“You must think that now that I’m gone, you can do whatever you want,” she said. “I’m only going back home to spend time with my family before the wedding, and I’ll be back. You better not do anything to cross me or I’ll make you pay once I’m back.”

Lyra plastered a mocking smile onto her face. Everybody knew that Julian had ordered Crystal to leave the palace because of her behaviour at the Academy, which had tarnished the royal family. “I hope you have a nice time with your family.”

“Oh, I will,” Crystal said, her fake smile even brighter than Lyra’s. Turning around, she got into the waiting car and left.

“He really let her leave,” Rae said as Lyra resumed her walk to the school. “Does this mean he is not marrying her anymore?”

Lyra had not expected that Julian would go as far as asking Crystal to leave the palace. But the fact that he had…it ignited a splash of hope in her heart. Hope that she knew was ridiculous and false.

“I told you, he cares about us,” Rae continued.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Lyra replied.

Rae had gotten that idea into her head over the course of the three days Lyra spent with Julian. But Lyra knew better than to expect anything because of what happened during those days. Julian being with her was a natural reaction to her heat, nothing else.

“If he didn’t care,” Rae argued, “he could have left you alone. Maybe he has changed his mind about marrying Crystal. Why would he humiliate her like this by sending her away from the palace?”
