Tyler and Sharon sat side by side, with Niall and Liana nearby. However, that didn't stop the two from quietly gossiping with each other.
"Megan must be extremely wealthy to donate five million dollars in cash to the village. Our lives would be set if only we could get that much money."
Sharon's eyes practically turned into dollar signs, and her jealousy was so obvious that anyone could see it.
Tyler smiled through clenched teeth and said, "Five million dollars is a considerable amount for us, but for Megan, it's probably just pocket change. Right now, she's doing everything she can to please Wayne and Melody. When the time comes, the grievances we suffered will surely be compensated, so don't worry about it.
"Besides, who says we can't use the money donated to the village? Let's not forget, whether it's the village or the business, if we hadn't suffered losses and contributed money, they wouldn't have been able to settle the issue of shares. So, just wait. We'll definitely get our share of the donation."
Sharon immediately laughed upon hearing this. She then looked at Tyler with a hint of sympathy and said, "But what has Nolan done to deserve Megan? He's just a good-for-nothing. Megan must be out of her mind to fall for someone like him."
Tyler sneered and replied, "Who knows? But at least it's not causing us any harm, right? The better Megan performs, the worse Nolan looks, and the more disappointed Wayne and Melody will be with him. That makes everything easier for us to handle.
"Sharon, don't worry about these things for now. As for what Nolan did to us, I'll make sure he pays for it—if not for me, then at least for the baby you're carrying."
When Tyler mentioned the baby, his eyes brightened. He gazed at Sharon's belly, and a deep, knowing smile spread across his face.
Sharon also gazed deeply at Tyler for a moment, then she gently stroked her belly. "That's right, this child is precious, far more valuable than Nolan's life. Tyler, you know that too, right?"
"Now, I know that many of you might have misunderstandings about him, but I ask that you don't look down on him. You should know he is a very, very good man. I believe many of you haven't seen him in a long time, so let's give him a warm round of applause and invite him to come up and say hello to everyone!"
After finishing her speech, Megan led the applause herself. Below the stage, the applause erupted enthusiastically. However, the expressions of those on the stage were far more complex.
Ben and the other business executives had been worried ever since they learned that Megan was Nolan's wife. But seeing that Megan didn't seem to hold any grudges and that she was so wealthy, they had started to relax. Yet, the mention of Nolan's name still left them with an uncomfortable feeling.
After all, they had all let Nolan down. Not only had they failed to deliver what was promised to the villagers, but they even stole the shares and dividends that should have gone to Nolan's family. But now, with the atmosphere building up like this, there was nothing they could do or say.
At that moment, Harold looked at Ben and smiled. "Nolan? I've seen the family tree. He should be from my grandson's generation. It's so rare to come across a young man who has contributed so much to his hometown these days."
