Back in the banquet hall, Shaun and Nolan's bet was temporarily put on hold since Lincoln was still nowhere to be found.
But to everyone present, this didn't change anything. No one thought Nolan stood a chance. Lincoln's absence only bought Nolan a little more time before the inevitable.
Yet, even in this lull, nobody wanted Nolan to have a moment's peace.
Shaun sat nearby, with Audrey close to him, while Megan and the others looked at Nolan with mock anticipation, eager to see him humiliated.
Suddenly, Megan seemed to have an idea and said to Shaun with a smile, "Mr. Baxter, since Audrey is now your girlfriend, wearing knock-offs is going to reflect badly on you, isn't it? It's especially inappropriate when Nolan gifted her that knock-off, don't you think?"
Audrey was wearing The Crystal of Devotion, a piece so stunning that it made her beauty all the more radiant. Yet, this jewelry that Audrey cherished had repeatedly become a tool for mocking Nolan.
Even if it were fake, Audrey couldn't bear to part with it. She wanted to protect it with her life since Nolan had told her this jewelry was called Audrey's Devotion, not the Crystal of Devotion.
Shaun nodded with a grin. "You're absolutely right, Ms. Turner. I almost forgot that Audrey is still wearing fake jewelry from that fraud. Audrey, you should take that fake thing off and return it now."
While Audrey was very reluctant, she began removing the pieces, one by one, under everyone's watchful eyes without betraying any emotion.
However, the moment she took it off and lost the jewelry's brilliance, her beauty seemed to lose a certain radiance.
Megan was the happiest to witness this scene. She couldn't say exactly why, but she couldn't take it when Audrey wore the Crystal of Devotion, even though it was fake.
"It's obvious you couldn't afford the real Crystal of Devotion and thought nobody would recognize it if you changed the name of the knock-off. But you ended up tripping over your own lie."
Shaun smirked. "The Crystal of Devotion is worth close to 100 million dollars. Even my family would hesitate before splurging on it.
"Nolan, if you're going to try impressing a woman, make sure it's at least within your means next time. No one would doubt you that way."
With a mocking shake of his head, Shaun added, "If you're going to be a fraud, at least be convincing. What's the point of being a con artist if anyone can see right through your act."
Megan snickered. "Mr. Baxter, maybe he chose the Crystal of Devotion because he figured, since no one could afford it, they wouldn't know about it. But in the end, nobody believed him either. Ha ha ha!"
