486.Chapter 486
“What? Poison?” Matthew looked at Anthony in disbelief. “Is that really poison in your hand?”
“Matthew, why do you believe Caleb but not me?” Anthony glanced at Caleb, and in just a moment, the twisted expression on his face had vanished completely. He looked calm, as if he had never been the one who had acted like a madman, threatening to kill someone just moments ago.
Matthew let out a cold laugh. “I don’t believe a word from either of you, Anthony. Hand over what you’re holding.”
He walked up to Anthony, snatched the vial from his hand, and poured its contents onto the ground.
“Matthew, see? I told you it’s poison,” Caleb said excitedly, thinking he had finally proven his point. But the next second, when he saw the ordinary, unremarkable puddle on the ground, his face fell.
Anthony smiled faintly. “Matthew, you see? I told you I wasn’t going to do anything. I just wanted to scare Caleb a little.”
His cold gaze fell on Caleb, and the sinister look in his eyes made Caleb shiver. “After all, he’s the heir, Sophie’s husband. Why would I want to kill him?”
‘There’s no way that was just a scare. Anthony was about to have him beaten to death just now. I’m the heir to the Marquiss estate, and those guards wouldn’t dare to lay a finger on me. Otherwise, Matthew would have found nothing but a corpse when he arrived, Caleb thought to himself.
Caleb said, “Matthew, you have to believe me. He really wanted to kill me. I’m telling the truth. Look at my leg. He broke it. See?”
After being released by the guards, Caleb fell back onto the ground, hastily and clumsily revealing his bruised and battered leg in an attempt to convince Matthew.
But Matthew only glanced at it before turning away, then frowned and scolded Anthony. “If you wanted to break his leg, you could have just told me. I have plenty of ways to deal with him. You’re not in the best shape yourself. Why go through all this trouble?”
Caleb couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He stared at Matthew in shock. “Y–you can’t treat me like this. Matthew, you just said-”
Matthew let out a cold laugh. “I said you couldn’t have an accident at the Duke’s estate, but your leg was already broken, wasn’t it? You owe Anthony for this, and you owe us. Since Anthony’s not getting better, neither will your leg.”
“And if you even think about using this to bully Sophie, you’d better pray that you never leave the Marquis’s estate again. Otherwise, I’ll break your other leg,” Matthew warned.
Caleb had thought Matthew was here to save him, but now he realized that even Matthew wanted to teach him a lesson. Fear quickly turned to resentment on Caleb’s face.
Caleb clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. “I–I understand, Matthew. Now that my leg is broken, can I go? Please?”
“But if he starts talking nonsense when he gets, back, or if anyone from the Marquis’s estate dares to bully Sophie, he’ll find
out what real agony feels like,” Anthony added, smiling faintly at Caleb, who was desperate to escape.
He continued, “Remember what I said? I happen to need someone to test this medicine. Caleb, thank you for your

Matthew had been somewhat reluctant at first. But after hearing Anthony’s words, she couldn’t help but worry that Caleb might indeed spread rumors and get Sophie into trouble when he returned.
Matthew decided to follow Anthony’s advice.
He took the medicine and strode quickly over to Caleb, who was stumbling as he tried to leave. “Caleb, don’t blame us for being ruthless. We’re just looking out for Sophie. If you truly care about her, you shouldn’t mind, right?”
