The Lady Nun Seeks Justice (Eliza Stonor) novel Chapter 371

371.Chapter 371

Matthew stood to the side, his face dark and gloomy.

Gabriel, unfazed, instructed someone to keep knocking on the door,

But this time, no matter how hard they knocked, no one came to open the door.

The only response from inside was a single sentence. “The Holy Lady is busy. Lord Mowbay, please come back another day.” Hearing this again, Matthew, his face still pale, raised his foot, ready to storm forward

Gabriel grabbed him firmly “What do you think you’re doing?”

Matthew gritted his teeth and snapped, “I’m calling for Dianal Didn’t they say she’s here? I want to see if she doesn’t want to come out!”

Hearing this, Gabriel released his grip on Matthew.

Forcing their way in was clearly not an option, but perhaps Diana could be their way

Gabriel said calmly, “Bring up breaking off the engagement. That should get her to come out.”

“What? Father, I’m not breaking off the engagement with Diana!” Matthew exclaimed, spinning around in shock.

Matthew had genuinely thought Gabriel wanted him to discuss ending the engagement with Diana

Gabriel shot Matthew a look of utter disdain, as if he were staring at a complete failure. “Tell me about it. Even if you agreed, I’d never allow it.”

This wasn’t about Matthew–it was all for the sake of the Stonor family.

The Stonor family had once been a prestigious literary clan in Hasen City, a legacy now carried on by the Baker family. Though the current generation of the Baker family had faltered somewhat, their foundation remained solid.

After all, Diana’s grandfather was a renowned scholar of this era.

The Stonor family needed this alliance to secure its dominance in court and strengthen its reputation among scholars So, even if Matthew agreed to break off the engagement, Gabriel would never consent.

Matthew, oblivious to the political maneuvering at play, completely missed Gabriel’s true intentions,

He mistakenly believed Gabriel was acting out of concern for him.

Relieved by Gabriel’s words, Matthew relaxed and stepped forward. He clenched his fists, fighting the urge to kick the door down, before knocking again with forced patience.

From inside came Sarah’s impatient voice. “Didn’t I already say the Holy Lady is busy? Can’t you come back tomorrow? Or maybe the day after?”

Matthew stood outside the door, his face darkened. “I’m not here for Eliza. Get Diana out here.”

Sarah, puzzled, thought to herself, ‘Weren’t they just asking for Eliza earlier? Why are they switching people now?

“Miss Baker? What do you want with her?”

Matthew let out a cold laugh. “I’m her fiancé. What do you think I want? Get her out here! Didn’t she say she wanted to break off the engagement? If she doesn’t show up today, there’s no way I’m agreeing to it!”

The mention of “fiance” made Sarah hesitate, it wasn’t something she could easily dismiss

After a moment’s pause, she said, “Fine, wait here. I’ll go ask her

Matthew was so annoyed he almost cursed. Ask her? What is there to ask? he thought.

He was Diana’s legitimate fiancé–what was there to doubt?

Before Matthew could say another word, Sarah had already darted off to Eliza’s courtyard.

After hearing Sarah’s report, Eliza turned to Diana, who was sitting nearby. “They won’t agree easily. You should just stay here and avoid getting tricked by them”

Perhaps it was because she was sensitive to how others looked at her. She could tell whether Matthew truly liked her, which was why she chose him back then.

Diana furrowed her brows in frustration.

Seeing this, Eliza placed a hand on her shoulder. “If you don’t want to go, then don’t.”

But after a moment’s thought, Diana shook her head. “No, I have to go. You stay here and wait for me. There’s no need for you to come along. I test their intentions for you, so you’ll know how to act later.”

Diana followed Sarah over.

Moments later, Diana stepped out through the door Sarah had opened. She stood on the steps, keeping her distance from Gabriel and Matthew

Matthew’s eyes lit up the moment he saw her. “Diana, you finally decided to come out! What’s a Baker family heiress doing in a rundown place like this? Come on, let’s head back.”

As he spoke, he reached out, trying to grab her hand.

Diana sidestepped him and, without hesitation, sent him flying with a sharp kick. “Get lost! Who gave you the right to touch me in broad daylight?

Though Diana claimed to be wary of Gabriel, her actions in front of him said otherwise. She kicked and scolded Matthew without a second thought, showing no regard for Gabriel’s presence

What she didn’t expect, however, was that her kick would send Matthew staggering and tumbling to the ground. The sight left her momentarily stunned.

“Seriously, Matthew? What are you trying to do? That kick wasn’t even that hard. Don’t you dare try to pin this o Matthew hit the ground hard, accidentally tearing open the wound on his back. His face twisted in pain as he grimaced and

this on mel winced.

Hearing Diana’s words, he couldn’t hold back his anger. “Who the hell wants to scam you? Can’t you see I’ve got an injury

my back? And you kicked me like that! What, are you trying to kill your fiancé?”
