Scarlett Jennings looked at Samuel Chalmers in front of her, and her heart inexplicably jumped a few beats.
Seeing that he was still staring at her, Scarlett lowered her eyes, thought for a moment, and then extended her left hand, slowly unwrapping the newly bandaged gauze.
"Because I have the same mark."
As she spoke, the gauze on Scarlett’s hand was completely removed, revealing a clear wound in her palm, and on the intact part of the palm, there was exactly the same Peach Wood Mark as Samuel Chalmers.
Samuel looked at her palm as if stunned for a moment.
Although he had asked on purpose.
But he hadn’t expected Scarlett to admit it so straightforwardly.
"Do two identical marks... have any special significance?"
Samuel’s voice was slightly soft, carrying an emotional shift even he wasn’t aware of, and then he saw Scarlett look at him and suddenly nod.
Then, she earnestly said,
"It’s a Protective Mark left by my master. If we encounter danger, we will sense each other."
She spoke with utmost seriousness,
"The Golden Light on you is unique, and my master left you this mark probably hoping that if you encounter any danger, I can sense it and protect you in time.
...I just didn’t expect that you would sense me first and help me."
Samuel: ...
He was too naive.
He actually expected a little liar to confess willingly.
Ha...
"Is it so?"
Samuel’s expression softened a bit, but due to the Golden Light, Scarlett couldn’t see him clearly; upon hearing, she nodded to him again.
She already looked a bit obedient, and with this serious little demeanor, ordinary people wouldn’t think she was lying.
There’s no way, she couldn’t bluntly tell him that actually, this is a mark representing a marriage contract.
That would sound like she and her master were setting him up for marriage.
Samuel looked at her, his voice neither cold nor warm,
"When I asked you the first time, you didn’t tell me."
Scarlett had obviously prepared an excuse,
"I was afraid you’d overthink, after all, two identical marks on our bodies, it’s easy to cause misunderstandings."
Upon hearing this, Samuel couldn’t help but chuckle coldly twice in his heart, his voice slightly chilly,
"It’s quite easy to cause misunderstandings indeed..."
He paused, seemed to deliberately sneer, "Kind of like a marriage contract mark."
Scarlett suddenly looked at Samuel, her guilt flashed in her eyes, but fortunately, she managed to keep her expression steady.
Not daring to continue with this topic, Scarlett pretended to be a bit tired and indicated she wanted to rest.
Samuel, however, had no intention of leaving, just sat aside and signaled her to do as she liked.
"I’ll leave only when your complexion improves."
Scarlett couldn’t bear to part with the pure Spiritual Energy surrounding Samuel, so she didn’t suggest he leave, leaned against the bedside, and started to fake sleep.
Originally just putting on a show, but she didn’t expect that her Spiritual Power had been exhausted just trying to help Liora Gold, and chatting with Samuel had drained her remaining energy.
At this moment, she unknowingly tilted her head, closed her eyes, and actually fell into a deep sleep.
Samuel noticed her fatigue, a hint of helplessness in his eyes, yet he still reached out to adjust the corner of her blanket.
His gaze lingered over her palm, his eyes paused slightly.
The wound just unwrapped from the gauze was exposed like that, though it had medicine and was no longer bleeding, it was still unsightly.
Glancing at Scarlett already deep asleep, Samuel suddenly gently lifted her injured palm.
His fingers lightly brushed over the wound in her palm, and the next second, the wound that originally looked somewhat grim eerily vanished, leaving only smooth skin.
Samuel’s expression stayed normal as he wrapped new gauze around her palm for cover.
Finished with this, he looked up to see Liora Gold by Scarlett’s pillow looking at him, clearly having seen his actions.
Samuel calmly glanced at it, then lightly raised his finger, made a silent shushing gesture at his lips.
