Samuel Chalmers stayed in Capital Metropolitan for three days.
Scarlett Jennings did not linger long at the Jennings Family residence. After explaining things clearly to Caius Carew, she left straight for the Taoism Academy with Nathan White and Ashton Todd.
She had taken a bit too much time off.
Chase Jennings, due to his injuries, temporarily stayed at the Jennings Family home to recuperate. After all, he had a head injury, and Luca Jennings couldn’t just send him out of town at this time.
On this day, Chase had just removed the bandages from his head when his assistant sent over the information he’d asked to be checked.
"Young Master Chase, that girl is named Ava Zimmerman. She graduated high school and is 22 years old. She works as a warehouse clerk at a mall. She’s the one who called the ambulance for you that day."
"22 years old working as a clerk?"
Chase found it odd—this wasn’t a job most young girls would willingly take.
The assistant explained softly, "It’s mainly because she’s ugly. Even the food delivery services don’t want her."
Chase frowned, wondering how ugly she had to be for a food delivery job to reject her.
Thinking this, he casually opened the photo attached to the file, only to be stunned by how unattractive she looked.
"Yikes, this ugly."
Chase muttered under his breath, clearly not expecting the face under the mask he’d seen that day to look like this.
The photo was a formal ID picture, without the mask covering her face.
The girl’s lower half of her face had noticeable scar tissue growth and obvious burn marks on her left cheek—uneven and rugged, making her appearance a bit shocking at first glance.
"Apparently, she was disfigured as a child. Her family was poor, so they didn’t treat the scars, leaving her looking like this now."
The assistant explained softly over the phone. He admitted he was startled when he first saw her, too. It was said that because of her frightening appearance, she would eat her meals while avoiding others.
Chase initially thought of sending a token of gratitude through his assistant, given her help in his time of need.
But after seeing her situation in the file, Chase decided to thank her in person instead.
True to his words, Chase took the time during his lunch break the next day to find her.
The mall owner, upon hearing that a member of the Jennings family had come in person, immediately dropped his meal midway and hurried over to host the second young master of Jennings Family.
When he learned that Chase had come to express his gratitude to one of their mall employees, the mall owner was surprised but silently resolved to ensure the employee would be well cared for in the future.
After all, it was a rare opportunity to connect with the Jennings family’s second young master.
This was also why Chase opted to find her at her workplace rather than visiting her home privately to thank her.
It could be seen as indirect reciprocity for her help.
The mall manager had a somewhat complicated expression when he heard they were looking for Ava Zimmerman.
To be honest, in a mall with so many employees, it would be difficult for him to remember any particular warehouse clerk’s name.
But Ava Zimmerman? He knew her.
Primarily because this girl was excessively unattractive. She had originally been hired thanks to her disability certificate.
The group of people accompanied Chase to the back warehouse.
Before they even entered the room, they heard a delicate female voice exclaim in horror,
"Your... your face, why does it look like that? It’s so scary."
She immediately followed up with, "I didn’t mean to say it like that—it’s just that I was startled when I saw you suddenly. You’re not angry, right?"
The group walked closer, just in time to see an exquisitely dressed woman speaking to a petite girl wearing a warehouse clerk’s uniform, complete with a hat and a mask.
