"Young Master Lucas!"
Caius Carew and the others were startled. They immediately dismantled the Talisman Array and rushed forward. However, two figures were faster, darting ahead to catch Scarlett Jennings as she nearly collapsed to the ground.
Donovan Jennings and Luca Jennings supported her firmly, one on each side.
Lucas Jennings, a step slower, couldn’t find space to intervene and could only anxiously circle behind the two of them.
Scarlett had merely blacked out for a moment due to excessive spiritual power consumption.
She quickly regained herself, though her face was still pale.
Supported by Donovan and Luca’s hands, she steadied herself again. Raising her hand, she dispelled the protective array surrounding Samuel Chalmers and moved forward to check on him.
Seeing that he was still unconscious, she reached out to lift him off the ground.
Donovan and Luca, however, wouldn’t let her do it, quickly stepping in to take over.
Donovan, for once, wore a serious expression, saying, "I’ve already called both the Jennings and Chalmers Family doctors over. He’ll be fine—you need to go rest."
But Scarlett shook her head. "I’m fine. I need to see for myself."
Luca, while feeling grateful to Samuel for shielding his niece from that Fire Thunder earlier, was now uneasy seeing Scarlett’s concern for him.
She was in such a state herself, yet still worried about her boyfriend. Ah, what could he do?
"You go back. After the doctors finish their examinations, I’ll update you on his condition."
Wasn’t it enough that there were Security Bureau folks standing nearby?
Couldn’t they help out?
Why did his daughter have to shoulder everything?
Thinking this, Luca cast a sharp, slightly accusatory glance at Caius Carew and the others.
That look, how to describe it?
It felt as if he were questioning whether they were wasting a taxpayer heavyweight’s money.
Caius Carew and Victor Quintero: ...
It’s not like they didn’t want to help earlier, okay?
The problem was, they couldn’t help!
And they hadn’t been just standing there—maintaining the Talisman Array to trap the system had drained a substantial amount of spiritual energy too.
After a brief pause, Caius Carew still stepped forward. "Young Master Lucas, leave this friend to me. I’ll ensure he’s unharmed."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on Samuel Chalmers’ unconscious face, his eyes faintly reflective.
The aura that had emanated from this man when he blocked that Fire Thunder just now felt vaguely familiar to him.
Scarlett heard him and remained silent for a moment before saying,
"If I stay close to him, he’ll recover faster."
Scarlett was genuinely worried about Samuel’s condition, and honestly, she wasn’t wrong in her reasoning.
Though unconscious, the man’s spiritual energy was incredibly pure!
Donovan, having heard bits and pieces from Scarlett about Samuel’s special circumstances, no longer objected at her remark.
Luca, however, who wasn’t in the loop, looked visibly conflicted upon hearing what she said.
Mostly because, on first listen, it sounded a lot like those romance-driven plots where some lovesick fool claims love alone can cure all illnesses.
Could it be that his daughter was a lovesick fool?
Seeing Luca’s serious expression while still stubbornly holding her arm, Lucas became anxious, blurting, "Uncle, my sister’s right!"
Although he didn’t understand the specifics, last time his sister had "healed" this way too.
