The idea of raising a young girl to be a future daughter-in-law might not have seemed at all strange in the past.
Some families even felt more assured when a girl they raised themselves married their son.
But in modern times, and especially for a family like the Jennings Family, bringing up a child bride is considered quite disgraceful.
It’s not as though the Jennings family’s grandsons were undesired; to go as far as raising a young girl to be a bride is unnecessary.
Not to mention, Azura Loomis is a niece from her maternal family and, strictly speaking, a distant relative of the Jennings Family.
The old Mrs. Jennings doted on Azura, truly treating her as her own granddaughter.
It was for this reason that she couldn’t accept the overstepping behavior between the child she regarded as her own granddaughter and her own grandson.
Let alone with two grandsons at that!
If it had been before, the old lady would have never believed Donovan Jennings if he said Adam Jennings liked Azura.
But having witnessed the private intimacy between Chase Jennings and Azura, even without a shred of evidence against Adam, the old lady believed it without hesitation.
And as for Adam, being the one accused... he wasn’t even aware of the accusations against him.
Such a shameful affair, the old lady could not possibly speak of it herself.
This was also why Donovan Jennings had to discuss it privately with the old lady.
In private, whatever is said is under his control.
As for Adam’s innocence...
After being so rash with his words to Scarlett time and again, what’s wrong with a brother tarnishing a little of his brother’s innocence?
Luca Jennings quietly appreciated the effect of his son’s strong move, and then he said unhurriedly,
"Since mom doesn’t object, let’s settle the matter this way."
At the end, he didn’t forget to turn his head and ask Old Sir Jiang, "Dad, what do you think?"
"Just go ahead with what you all decided. I’m old now and can’t manage these things," Old Sir Jiang said as he stood up with an easy countenance, as though he was retired and out of the loop, but... who would believe that?
Azura realized the moment she saw the old Mrs. Jennings’ attitude that she had no way to stay.
She suppressed the tumult of thoughts at the bottom of her heart.
She maintained an appearance of reluctant acceptance, without clinging, which led Brianna Jennings and Blaise Jennings’s couples to feel a bit more goodwill toward her.
Adam Jennings also felt rather complex emotions and, seeing that Azura was about to push the old lady upstairs, he quickly went forward,
"Let me help."
Perhaps because of the worried look she had given him when she heard the news of his parent’s divorce, or maybe because they both seemed like castaways that night, Adam wanted to talk to Azura, just like old times.
Adam thought his actions were ordinary, not realizing that they were exactly what the old lady was sensitive to.
The old Mrs. Jennings’ face changed drastically and she said to Adam in a stern, urgent voice,
"No need for you! Go back to your room!"
After speaking, seeing Adam’s stunned expression and realizing that he would become a child from a divorced family after tonight, she felt annoyed with herself and tried to make amends,
"You must be exhausted tonight, no need to keep me company. Go rest in your room quickly, Azura will take care of me."
Even though he was confused by the old lady’s attitude, thinking of his parents, Adam showed some disappointment on his face, nodded, and did not come any closer.
Unbeknownst to him, to the old lady, this reaction of his was interpreted as his disappointment over not being able to be alone with Azura.
The old Mrs. Jennings became even more convinced that Donovan hadn’t lied to her. On reflection, she realized Adam had previously told her he had performed well on his college entrance exam and could have gone to Capital University. Instead, he chose Sea University, where Azura was admitted based on a sports recommendation. Wasn’t it obvious he did this because of Azura?
With this realization, she regretted not noticing sooner and praised her eldest grandson for his discerning and decisive nature—he was truly worthy of being the eldest among them.
