At the other end of the livestream.
Jennings Family.
Chase Jennings watched as the trolls in the chat started pulling the audience’s intelligence back down, quietly clicking his tongue, and then muttered softly,
"It’s all my fault for valuing family too much."
Although he intended for Scarlett Jennings to face setbacks, it didn’t include facing them in this way.
Scarlett could be bullied by the Jennings Family, but she must not be bullied by outsiders.
Especially not the Garrison Family.
Chase didn’t like Scarlett, but he disliked the Garrison Family even more.
As he pondered how to redirect the trolls, he heard the patter of footsteps coming from the stairs.
It was Lucas Jennings, clutching his phone with an angry look on his face.
He seemed ready to leave, but when his eyes caught sight of Chase sitting in the garden, he immediately changed direction and walked toward him.
Chase instinctively turned his phone face down to prevent Lucas from seeing the livestream screen.
Lucas didn’t notice his action and just walked up to Chase, saying,
"Brother Chase, did you watch Scarlett’s show in the livestream? The Garrison Family had the nerve to say on camera that they’ve been raising her for over a decade! They failed to take advantage at the last banquet, but now they want to use online public opinion to morally kidnap my sister!"
Listening to Lucas, Chase pretended to be nonchalant,
"What livestream? Why would I watch Scarlett’s livestream? And how did the Garrison Family get in on it? Although, they’re not wrong, they did raise her for over ten years."
Chase spoke with apparent indifference, causing Lucas to become anxious,
"The Garrison Family’s history with Scarlett was made clear at the last banquet, wasn’t it?! Our family didn’t pursue them for child abuse originally because they raised her, yet they dare act like this on camera again!"
Lucas spoke angrily, then urged Chase,
"I’m going over to the Garrison Family right now to back my sister, Brother Chase, come with me!"
Chase gave him a sideways glance, clearly uninterested,
"If you want to go, then go yourself. I’m not dealing with her matters."
Lucas stomped his foot in frustration, "We’re all part of the Jennings Family! This concerns our family’s reputation, how can it be just ’her matters’?!"
It had to be said, Old Sir Jiang’s traditional family values did have some impact on the younger generation’s upbringing.
Even though Lucas had been at odds with Scarlett before, when faced with bullying from the Garrison Family, his first instinct was to unite against them.
Chase naturally felt the same.
But he wouldn’t show it as openly as Lucas.
"The program is being recorded over there now. Rushing over recklessly would just make the Jennings Family a laughingstock. If you want to dissociate Scarlett from the Garrison Family, charging over and shouting won’t cut it."
Chase said, "Audiences online know the Garrison Family raised her for over a decade. Scarlett’s attitude towards them would just become a reason for the whole internet to attack her. If you want to help her, you’ve got to change the audience’s perception of her."
Being almost a generation older than Lucas, Chase might have some schemes, but he was certainly more stable in his approach.
Lucas found his words made sense, nodded silently, and wanted to ask Chase what to do.
However, before he could speak, he suddenly seemed to have thought of something, and looked at Chase suspiciously,
"Didn’t you say you hadn’t been following Scarlett’s program livestream? How come you know so much about what’s happening online?"
He recalled he hadn’t explained it in such detail.
Chase, reminded of this, briefly showed a hint of awkwardness on his face but quickly regained composure, responding in a dismissive tone,
