Jace held the injured girl close and carefully carried her toward his car.

“Bella...” Jace silently said her name again. For some reason, a sudden, sharp pain shot through his head, and an intense, uncontrollable emotion welled up within him, making his chest tighten.

Jace gritted his teeth, looking at the severely wounded Bella in his arms, her head bleeding profusely.

She was the ray of light that saved Justin from the darkness of his past and brought brightness to his gloomy existence. Her brothers became his friends, and her family became his. All of this was simply because he had Bella.”

Jace’s vision blurred momentarily. In his hazy memory, he saw many men and women surrounding him. They felt familiar, but he could not remember their names.

“Justin was truly fortunate to have what others could never obtain in their entire lives.” Grant was still laughing, but his laughter grew colder, like a sharp blade slicing through Jace’s eardrums. “But did he deserve any of that? Why couldn’t those things belong to me?”
