The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 681

"Bingo," Emerson conceded, letting the situation play out.

Ronan, hearing this, relaxed and went to light a cigarette. But a single glance from Cordelia made him think twice, and he pocketed it instead.

Cordelia was annoyed, thinking to herself, If you had this planned all along, why didn't you tell me sooner? Maybe then I wouldn't feel so completely duped!

Daniella's joy was obvious. "Come on, since the contract isn't signed yet, let's pinky swear."

Emerson muttered, "Child's play," but let it slide.

Daniella had no idea Emerson had already prepared the Big Mountain project contract. She had thought him moody when he seemingly denied her the bid the previous day, only to surprise her today. She felt closer to him, her gaze softening.

Their eyes met frequently, charged with unspoken feelings.

Ronan called their driver to check on the kids.

The driver said Callum and Jayson were down by the creek, playing, and asked if they should come over or if Ronan and the others would join them.

Ronan said they'd head over.

As they walked, Emerson and Daniella lagged behind. They didn’t talk much, but Daniella kept sneaking glances at Emerson with a girlish admiration, which didn't sit well with him.

Ronan glanced back at Emerson, while Cordelia was lost in thoughts of the kids.

When they reached the creek, the adults stood chatting, while the children played nearby.

"Something bothering you?" Ronan found a moment to pull Emerson aside.
