"I've been trying to get ahold of this guy for you, but he's like a ghost. No one knows where he's at or even what he looks like! The only thing I can do is reach out to the folks he's dealt with in the past and see if they can get a response out of him."
Dorothy nodded, understanding that Kenneth would have exhausted all his resources. She didn't need to push him.
"I guess I'm just banking on this guy now."
Kenneth hesitated before suggesting, "After this incident, I realized that Langston has a knack for computer stuff. Shell we let him have a go?"
Dorothy shook her head. "No, whether Langston is capable or not is not the point. Even if he is, I don't want him to see that."
Langston was sensitive, not as naive and innocent as Abigail. If he was to recover the video, he would inevitably be the first to see it, which would be detrimental to his growth.
That was about a murder!
Langston would harbor even deeper hatred for the Lopez family.
Kenneth understood Dorothy's maternal concerns and nodded in agreement. "I guess I oversimplified things."
"Kenneth, I know you mean well and I appreciate it."
"Enough with the thank-yous," Kenneth laughed, glancing at his watch. "How about we grab some grub and then hit the road? The kids are waiting for you."
"Alright."
Dorothy quickly gathered her belongings and left the room with Kenneth.
They found a local diner and sat down. She wasn't hungry and just thought it would be unfair to let Kenneth go without a meal after all his help.
As soon as the eggs and bacon arrived, Kenneth kept piling them onto her plate.
Dorothy lowered her eyes. "Kenneth, I've been thinking these past few days. Am I being too selfish? I'm depriving my children of their father’s love."
Because if Everett knew he had two children in this world, his love for them would be no less than hers.
If it weren't for her fear of how Everett's parents would treat the children, she would never have kept them a secret!
"Don't talk like that. The Lopez family is complicated, even Everett couldn't protect your family. You can't expect two little kids to fend for themselves in that!"
"But Abigail and Langston still want a father." Even if they didn't say it, Dorothy knew.
Because it was a child's nature!
"When they grow up, they'll understand your concerns. And situations change all the time. Maybe by then, Everett's parents won't be around anymore! Then Abigail and Langston can be reunited with Everett."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
