Isaac didn't like people poking into his private life.
"A normal person."
He promptly helped Grace into the car, saying, "Granny, let's head home first."
Grace bid her goodbyes to Sydney without suggesting a meal together.
Watching them leave, Sydney felt a pang of jealousy. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head, and she decided to follow them discreetly.
Inside the car.
Isaac cleared his throat. "Granny, she doesn't know my true identity. Please don't spill the beans later."
Grace looked surprised. "She doesn't know who you really are?"
"She thinks I'm just a regular worker, so please don't let the cat out of the bag."
If it weren’t for Grace's insistence, he wouldn't have agreed to introduce her to Brittany.
Grace got the hint and said with a smile, "I got it; I'll play along."
Isaac felt she might have misunderstood something and wanted to clarify, but ended up saying nothing.
Upon arriving, Isaac helped Grace up the stairs and knocked on the door.
Brittany heard the knock and said, "They're here."
She washed her hands, took off her apron, tidied up her clothes, and then opened the door.
Outside stood Isaac and a cheerful old lady.
Grace was dressed in neat clothes of good quality. Her white hair was neatly tied back, her eyes sparkling, and she looked in good spirits.
One couldn't tell she was a gravely ill old woman nearing death.
"Granny, welcome. I'm Brittany, Zakky's wife."
Grace had already met Brittany and was very pleased with her. "Thank you for preparing dinner tonight."
Brittany breathed a sigh of relief and helped her into the living room.
Isaac changed his shoes and followed them in.
The aroma wafting from the kitchen pleased Grace even more. Brittany could cook, which was pleasant.
"Granny, please sit down. Dinner will be ready soon."
She comforted Grace, poured her a cup of water, and handed it to her before heading back to the kitchen.
Grace looked around the tidy and clean house; everything was in its place.
She gave Isaac an approving look and said, "This girl is not bad."
She despised those who chased after wealth and status and just hoped Isaac could have a good life.
Isaac didn't expect Grace to be so fond of Brittany. He regretted bringing his granny here. They would inevitably divorce; what then?
"Granny, have some water first. I'll go help in the kitchen."
"Alright."
Isaac entered the kitchen, and Brittany was surprised. "Why are you here?"
"My granny doesn't know that we—"
"I got it; don't worry, I won't spill the beans." Brittany patted her chest.
She was well aware of the situation. They were just business partners; of course, they wouldn't spill the truth.
Then she remembered something: "Zakky, can you watch the stove for me? I forgot to buy the hot sauce for the cornbread. I'll go get it now."
With that, Brittany was off.
Grace watched her leave and said, "Zac, where's she going?"
"She's going to buy the hot sauce you like for the cornbread."
"Why aren't you going as her husband? Making Bri do it; you really don't have a clue!"
Grace was discontent. Isaac didn't expect her to defend Brittany like this, so he apologized: "Alright, I'll be sure to correct this."
Outside the apartment, Sydney looked at the rundown buildings, frowning. Why would Grace visit a place like this?
After they went in, they hadn't come out. Sydney couldn't wait any longer and decided to leave.
However, she caught sight of a familiar figure: Brittany. She lived here too?
Brittany walked into the convenience store, grabbed a bottle of hot sauce, and a bottle of juice.
"Ms. Dustin, are you having cornbread for dinner tonight?"
The store owner liked Brittany; who wouldn't like a good-looking young customer?
"Yes, my husband's grandmother is visiting." Brittany answered loudly.
She paid and left with her purchases.
Sydney overheard, and her face changed instantly. Brittany was married? And coincidentally, her husband's grandmother was visiting?
Sydney didn't dare to think about it, but she couldn't help herself. No, she had to know who Brittany's husband was!
Isaac didn't know what to say. They were talking completely different topics, but somehow they were having a blast.
Not far away, Sydney was fuming at the sight of their conversation. That witch Brittany had snagged Zac! Even Grace had come to see her!
Sydney clenched her fists, wishing she could tear Brittany to pieces!
Blissfully unaware, Brittany helped Grace into a cab and waved them off.
She then took out the gift box and handed it to Isaac. "This is for your future wife, not me. You should keep it."
Isaac frowned.
Brittany shoved the box into his arms and walked away.
He called after her, "Thanks for the dinner."
At least for now, Granny seemed quite happy with Brittany.
"It's the least I could do. You're putting me up; I help deal with Granny." Brittany didn't see what the big deal was.
With Granny gone, Brittany finally had time to think about work.
She hesitated, but finally decided to ask Isaac for his advice. He had work experience; maybe he could help.
Before she could open her mouth, her phone rang. It was an unknown number.
"Brittany, are you really leaving the Dustin family to be with a man?" Patrina's voice came from the other end.
Brittany walked out to the balcony and said, "Who I'm with is none of your business."
"Brittany, I heard you're with Mr. Tueley. I didn’t expect you to snare Mr. Tueley. You must’ve used your charms, huh?" Patrina smirked. "I should've known; for a loose woman like you, surely you've been played before."v
Brittany's face turned red with embarrassment, shame, and anger. "Patrina."
There was some noise from the other end of the line, then a different voice.
"Brittany, you make me sick. What else do you have to offer besides your body? You're so low, all for money."
Finn ruthlessly mocked her. With Brittany being with womanizer Wesley, it’s easier for people to guess what was up.
He used to think Brittany was heartless, but now she just makes him want to puke.
Her body was a bargaining chip. Though Brittany had no love for Finn, his insults still pissed her off.
"Finn, can't you have one normal thought in your head? What business is it of yours what I do?"
With that, she hung up without hesitation, tears welling up from the hurt.
Isaac watched her unmoving, and asked with a furrowed brow, "Brittany, are you okay?"
