Veronica was feeling super cranky.

She gritted her teeth and answered the phone.

Harvey's voice was deep and a bit raspy, "Why aren't you at home? Where'd you go?"

Veronica glanced at Eloise.

She really got the short end of the stick!

She knew it! The reason why Angus was suddenly fine and why Max suddenly had a bunch of problems—it was all Attorney Horigan's doing.

A bigshot in the legal field standing up for a woman, how touching!

Veronica was getting better at using people. She deliberately spoke softly, "Attorney Horgan, it's Veronica!... Yeah, we've met before, Eloise's college friend! Right... She's with me, she’s really upset, she was crying, and has had quite a bit to drink."

Harvey had just come home and was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, delicately loosening his tie with his slender fingers.

It was a simple act, but he made it look so graceful.

Upon hearing Veronica's words, he furrowed his brows, "She’s been drinking? What's wrong with her?"

Veronica sighed softly and started spinning a tale.

"Attorney Horigan, are you genuinely in the dark or just pretending? Eloise is deeply in love with you, and she's completely fallen out with Max! Max's ex happens to be our classmate and Eloise's co-worker, she's been badmouthing Eloise behind her back... Eloise really adores kids, she's really upset right now."

She mixed truth with lies, but towards the end, Veronica started choking up.

That relationship truly hurt Eloise a lot.

Harvey was silent for a while, and Veronica realized she might have said too much. She accidentally brought up Max, would that get Eloise in trouble?

Just as she was worrying, Harvey spoke, "Where are you guys?"

Veronica quickly gave him their location without asking more.

After hanging up, Veronica's expression was mixed. She had helped Eloise before but never expected her to win over Harvey, a man who seemed unattainable in Peterborough!

Not long ago, a famous actress thought she had a chance to marry into a wealthy family after attending a banquet. But she didn't even manage to get Attorney Horigan's business card.

His aura was powerful, and the music seemed to quiet down. All eyes were on him.

Harvey was used to being the center of attention since he was young, so he didn't care.

He found Veronica and Eloise.

Veronica was sober, while Eloise was sleeping by the table.

The bar's music was deafening, the air filled with the scent of sweat and hormones, but in the dark, Eloise's face was as pure as Orlena's, and her mint green dress made her seem even more refreshing.

Harvey nodded at Veronica, then bent over to pick up Eloise.

Eloise woke up startled.

She opened her eyes in confusion, looking as helpless as a scared little rabbit.

"So you do know how to be afraid, huh?" Harvey's tone was not friendly.
