Harvey hit the elevator button. When the doors opened, Eloise barged right in without a second thought.
Harvey gave her a sidelong glance. Adjusting his shirt in the mirror, he said in a cool tone, "I'm not taking your case."-
Eloise felt a chill creeping up her limbs. Obviously, Harvey was in on her family drama!
After a brief hesitation, she asked in a soft voice, "Did Max spill the beans?"
Harvey met her gaze in the mirror, offering an indifferent smile. "He's not that influential! Ms. Laurent, I prefer to keep my work and personal life separate."
Eloise got the picture. He was all for a steamy roll in the hay, but if it was about work, she could forget it. She felt a bit awkward.
Harvey didn't push her. Sure, Eloise was his type, but not enough to make him bend his rules. Besides, he wasn't in the mood for it in broad daylight.
The elevator came to a stop at the 28th floor. Harvey's secretary was waiting at the door. She looked surprised to see Eloise, but her professionalism kicked in, and she greeted them, "Attorney Horigan, Mr. Donnel is here."
Harvey tossed his bag to his secretary, instructing, "Send it for dry cleaning."
The secretary got the hint and left.
Harvey checked his phone, casually telling Eloise, "You should find another lawyer! ...And don't dish yourself out on the cheap." With that, he left the elevator.
Eloise found him hypocritical and baffling.
...
Eloise froze. Veronica gave her husband a sharp pinch, complaining, "You should have checked properly, how can Eloise be calm with Max here?"
Veronica's husband apologized earnestly, "I'm sorry, Eloise. I should have done my homework."
Before Eloise could reply, Harvey spotted them. He was dressed in a crisp white casual outfit, standing tall and handsome, a head-turner in the crowd. He acted as if he didn't know Eloise, only giving Veronica's husband a greeting.
Veronica's husband was flattered and grinned widely. "Attorney Horigan, I brought a friend to play."
Only then did Harvey seem to notice Eloise. Her skin was naturally glowing, and she was dressed refreshingly today. She wore a loose white T-shirt with light gray shorts. Her long brown hair was tied up in a bun, looking fresh and a little flirty.
Harvey's gaze swept over Eloise's long legs, then he casually said, "I don't think I've met this one before..."
