Three years later.
Eloise and Blake emerged from the airport. At the exit, Dwight, with his long legs, immediately took off his sunglasses and hugged Blake tightly, giving her a hearty kiss. Blake's face instantly turned red.
Eloise couldn't help but be a bit exasperated. Blake was only 19; Dwight was such a beast!
Over the past few years, Dwight had been in charge of Crescendo Sound Workshop. With Stuart's genes, he expanded it to Rossland and made it flourish.
In the process, he managed to win over Blake. When Landon found out, he beat up Dwight, the notorious playboy, nearly to death! But to everyone's surprise, Dwight stopped drinking and clubbing after getting together with Blake. He transformed into the perfect boyfriend.
He visited Blake in Switzerland every month.
……
Eloise returned to Peterborough mainly because Michelle's leg injury had recurred, and she needed treatment and recuperation there. She had invested in a few French restaurants and occasionally played the piano there. As a mature, beautiful and financially independent woman, Eloise naturally attracted many suitors. But she wasn't interested in anyone at all.
……
Everest Technologies.
On the 68th floor of a high-rise building in the CEO's office.
Harvey sat behind his wooden desk, busily signing documents. The light streaming in from the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him made him look even more striking, like a godly figure.
Denise walked in. She admired her boss, amazed at the good fortune life had bestowed upon him. At the age of 33, a man exudes a mature charm that deserves appreciation. The line of women wanting to have a relationship with Mr. Horigan extended from the east to the west of the city.
Denise placed a brown paper bag gently on the table.
Harvey paused and picked it up to look inside.
Denise cleared her throat, "Eloise is back!"
Harvey was obviously taken aback. He looked at Denise, his voice slightly hoarse, "She's back?"
Denise nodded nervously, "Yes, she's back! She's here for her aunt's leg injury and might stay in Peterborough for a while."
Harvey didn't ask any further. He opened the paper bag. Inside were a stack of photos of Dwight and Eloise. Although not too intimate, they were enough to make him feel sour. He knew that Dwight visited Switzerland every month. But in these three years, he hadn't visited even once. Because of Linda, he couldn't leave, nor did he dare to disturb her!
For three years, he could only relieve his longing through photos, but each time Dwight and Landon's sister Blake was included.
Denise could tell that her boss was jealous! She casually placed an invitation on the table, "Mr. Colman and Veronica are having a grand banquet for their fourth wedding anniversary."
Harvey smiled at the thought of the couple.
Denise added with a smile, "Eloise is also going!"
Suddenly, the invitation seemed more valuable to Harvey. He held it in his hands, pondering, while casually saying, "You've been working with me for a few years now. It's time for a raise! Oh, and it's your birthday next month. Pick out a gift for yourself in the mall and expense it later."
Denise beamed, "Thank you, Mr. Horigan!" As a reward, she picked out a necklace worth 16,000 for herself. She had transformed from a legal worker to a shrewd businesswoman, and she deserved it.
After Denise left, Harvey walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window alone, looking down. About 10 minutes later, he shakily pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Taking a deep drag, he closed his eyes.
She was finally back.
Saturday night at Riley and Veronica's wedding anniversary party, Eloise made her first appearance. She hadn't seen Veronica for a long time. When they met, they hugged each other tightly.
Veronica examined Eloise. She had recovered well and still looked delicate and elegant. But she seemed more mature than before, which made her even more attractive. Tears welled up in Veronica's eyes, "You naughty girl! You ran so far away!"
Eloise smiled lightly, "I won't be going anywhere for now."
Veronica chuckled, "If you run away again, I'll break your legs!"
As they were talking, Riley came over with their son Matthew. Matthew was five years old, a robust kindergartener.
Riley had Matthew greet Eloise. Matthew was very well-behaved, and Eloise liked him. She had even brought a gift for him.
Seeing her affection for Matthew, Veronica quietly urged, "You like children so much, and there are so many men pursuing you, but you never seem interested!"
Just as Eloise was about to step in, the door was gently held back. She looked up to find Harvey standing close by, his handsome face was a picture of earnestness, "Eloise, can we find a place to talk?"
Eloise hesitated. She didn't want to revisit the past, but she knew Harvey well. If she refused, he wouldn't hesitate to create a scene with the driver watching.
Weighing her options, she pointed to a café across the street, "Let's sit over there." With that, she walked ahead.
Harvey knew she was keeping her distance, not giving him any chance to influence her decision. He didn't push, instead calmly following her and lighting up a cigarette as he went.
At the café across the street, he extinguished his cigarette.
Inside the brightly lit café, Eloise ordered a cup of Americano. She stirred her drink gently, her words polite and formal, "How have you been these past years? I heard you started Everest Technologies. You're doing really well."
Everest Technologies had climbed its way into the top ten in Asia in just three years. With a market value in the billions, it was truly impressive.
Eloise sipped her coffee, "Harvey, you've always been exceptional."
Harvey's gaze was more direct. Since sitting down, he hadn't taken his eyes off her, sweeping over her face like a scanner. He gave a light chuckle, "Is that so? Exceptional at everything?"
Eloise was taken aback. Her ears turned slightly red before her demeanor cooled, "I should be going."
Harvey regretted his words. He tried to make amends, his voice softening, "I was wrong. Let's talk a little more. Eloise, why don't you ask about my love life these past years?"
Eloise didn't want to know. She silently paid for her coffee and walked ahead. For a divorced couple, a cup of coffee was more than enough.
"I'll walk you out." Harvey offered.
Eloise stopped in her tracks. Under the neon lights, she looked up at him. He was still as handsome as ever, even more attractive than before. But after three years, they were practically strangers. He was longing for the past, but Eloise had spent the past three years slowly forgetting him, letting the memories fade.
She spoke softly, "I can tell you're yearning for marriage, Harvey. Find a good woman and settle down. What's past is past. I can't stay in the past forever."
As she spoke the words, the pain resurfaced. Eloise turned away and walked briskly off.
Harvey stood in the dark, quietly watching her leave. Across the street, her driver was waiting. Brett had chosen the driver for her. She was now Miss Eloise of the Noland family, living a life of luxury. She could live as she pleased, with no obligations. She was comfortable. She truly didn't need to look back.
