Eloise's cheeks were as red as a tomato. Whenever she felt shy, her cheeks would turn a deep shade of red, making her look incredibly attractive.
Callum was staring right at her.
Eloise tried to sound calm, "Riley has already left."
Callum nodded. He looked at Eloise again, "My car is in for maintenance, so I took a taxi here earlier. Ms. Laurent, can you give me a lift?"
Eloise hesitated. The man in front of her was charismatic, but... was he always this forward?
It was their first meeting, and he was asking her for a ride home.
Eloise was innocent, but Veronica saw through it. She guessed that Riley's cousin was clearly interested in Eloise.
She had heard about Callum. A well-known gentleman from the Colman family, good-looking and highly educated. Of course, he also had high standards. Unexpectedly, he was smitten with Eloise at first sight.
Veronica, who was going through a rough patch, started plotting for Eloise. She shifted in her seat and smiled charmingly, "Eloise, he's Riley's cousin, give him a lift if you can, for my sake."
Eloise found it hard to refuse. She smiled at Callum and said, "Sure. Text me your address."
Callum might not have dated much, but it didn't mean he didn't know how to. He easily added Eloise's contact and sent her the address.
Eloise was surprised. Callum lived quite close to her. She gestured for Callum to get in the car and then started it.
On the road, Veronica did all the talking. Callum was respectful towards Riley's lover, there was no disrespect in his words, which made Eloise feel a bit fond of him.
Upon reaching the destination, Callum got out of the car. He walked up to the driver's seat and gently knocked on the window.
Eloise rolled down the window. Callum smiled and said, "Thank you, Ms. Laurent, I'll treat you to dinner some time." He lifted his phone.
Eloise smiled and agreed, thinking it was just Callum being polite. They had met by chance this time and might not meet again.
Callum left with a meaningful look.
As Eloise started the car again, Veronica yawned, "I'm tired."
She tilted her head and complained, "How long has Riley been abstinent? He's worn me out."
Eloise's cheeks turned rosy again. Veronica was just too blunt.
Later, Gunner eventually gave in. He had put the incident behind him. Veronica stayed with Eloise for a week before returning.
Over time, Eloise learned that Veronica and Riley were still in touch and heard they had spent a week in Sydney. Veronica looked very happy and radiant. All Eloise could do was sigh.
She was still at the apartment, Encore Soundworks, and her home. Life was so mundane.
Eloise gradually got used to this monotony.
It was Christmas Eve. Eloise finished work at six, the streets were filled with festive atmosphere, young couples were everywhere.
At times like this, Eloise couldn't help but think that she should start dating.
Michelle knew that her relationship with Harvey had ended. She had subtly hinted a few times, trying to introduce her to a friend's son, but Eloise had declined each time. Just as she was thinking about Michelle, the phone rang.
Michelle brought up that topic again on the phone; "Eloise, you should meet him, he's an associate dean, very well-off. I've met him, he's very handsome too. You're almost 25, you should seriously consider this."
Eloise looked up at the Christmas lights, they were blinking, very cute. She smiled and said, "Alright. I'll arrange a time to meet him."
Michelle laughed happily. "Arrange a time? He actually wants to spend Christmas Eve with you."
Eloise was a bit surprised. After a while, she agreed, "Okay then, Michelle, send me his Facebook account."
.....
Callum's gaze on Eloise was incredibly tender. It was chilly out, and when Eloise rubbed her hands together for warmth, Callum wrapped his own scarf around her.
Harvey abruptly stopped the car. He spun it around and just watched that couple walking side by side. He had to admit that Callum and Eloise were dating.
With that thought, Harvey's face turned icy cold.
…
After dinner, Callum suggested they go see a movie. But Eloise thought it was too soon, so they ended up going to an art exhibition. Unexpectedly, the exhibition center was packed to the rafters on Christmas Eve, and Eloise's slim figure was nearly squashed.
Callum, with a smile, wrapped her in his arms. Eloise was taken aback but did not resist.
Outside the exhibition center, Callum held Eloise's hand and found a spot with fewer people. It was Christmas Eve, and fireworks lit up the Peterborough sky.
Callum gazed at Eloise. He was deeply fond of her and had fallen for her at first sight. He wanted to kiss her but was afraid she might be angry, so he ended up giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead.
"Eloise, I had a blast tonight."
Eloise thought this kind of date was nice. It might not have been full of passion, but it was what she wanted. Amid the crowd, Callum gently embraced her.
Eloise leaned lightly on his shoulder. Callum smelled faintly of ink, which made her feel more secure compared to that other guy. She thought it was perfect. She wanted to completely forget Harvey and start fresh.
In the sky, fireworks bloomed. Eloise gently embraced Callum, accepting his pursuit.
Meanwhile, in the distance, Harvey stood amidst the crowd. He watched Eloise and Callum embrace, saw her look up and smile, and observed as she willingly embraced Callum.
These were all supposed to be his. Was she now taking them all back, only to give them to another man?
Was she going to marry Callum? In the near future, would she accept his wedding gift, then say to him, "Callum and I really appreciate Attorney Horigan's presence."?
