Larissa meddled by giving Morgan advice because firstly, she wanted to bring justice for Emmy, and secondly, she had her own personal reasons. She could ignore and not persecute the Seymours for everything they did to her. But since they dared to make Aster a target for their cunning ideas, then they should not blame her for being heartless.
Having worked in the hotel industry for more than ten years and having contact with numerous guests, Larissa had developed quite a network of connections. She found a name in her contacts list and called the number under it once she was certain that it was the one she wanted.
The other person was also a busy bee, the phone rang for a good while before they answered.
"Larissa, what made you call me after so long?" A young woman's voice came through the phone, clearly happy but also curious.
"Are you busy these days? Could you take some time out to come to Bartham? I have a huge deal for you, see if you want to take it." Larissa smiled, but it did not reach her eyes.
…
The next afternoon, Kevan had been sitting in on a planning meeting from the gaming department, and his work phone was with his assistant. Once the meeting was over, it was long past 3 pm.
Kevan went back upstairs and had only just run into his assistant when he frantically handed his phone over to him. "Mr. Rogers, your phone rang several times."
This phone of Kevan's may have been his work phone, but the assistant did not dare answer any of his calls without his permission.
The unanswered calls all came from the same unsaved number. Kevan had seen that number so many times that he already knew it by heart.
"I think there's an MMS too," the assistant added.
Ever since other instant messaging apps became the norm, the term "MMS" seemed very distant and far away from him. Kevan tapped into the messaging app, and the topmost message was indeed from Ron.
The MMS was a video, and he only played it after returning to his office.
When she saw Kevan, her eyes lit up for a moment.
"Kevan!" She tried to pounce on him, but the prison guard held her back. "Behave yourself!" The tall, female police officer barked sternly with irritation, her face cold.
Ruby timidly moved her lips a little before sitting across from Kevan with her neck hunched in on itself. The prison guard handcuffed Ruby securely before nodding at Kevan and leaving the room.
"Kevan …" Ruby's tears fell practically on command. "I know I was wrong. Please help me, and get them to let me out!"
"Breaking the law means going to prison. The law will not excuse anyone." Kevan presented a righteous appearance. "My apologies, I can't help you."
Ruby's tears fell harder than ever. "But you know so many people! You must have some way, right?"
