Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo novel Chapter 539

She was not deliberately trying to distance herself from him—She was able to distinguish between situations clearly—she was working right now, and he, on the other hand, was a hotel guest.

"Please head inside. Mr. Shields has been waiting for you."

Kevan remained in front of her though, blocking her path. "And you?" He looked down at her, his eyes calm. One could not see if there was any emotional turmoil within him.

"I need to go back to work." Larissa brushed past his arm in an attempt to leave.

Kevan reached back to grab her wrist. Her arm was so thin that he could practically feel her bones. She was so much thinner than the last time he saw her. His heart ached for her while his anger was also stoked by the fact that she did not know how to take good care of herself. His grip automatically tightened on her.

Larissa hissed in pain.

"Eat first." Kevan's cold voice sounded in her ear, his tone showing that he was not to be questioned. The chilling look in his eyes made her feel nervous. He practically dragged her back into the room.

Dylan seemed unsurprised with this result, only smiling as he glanced at them blandly.

The waiter arrived with the food a few minutes later, and the three of them sat around the coffee table to eat. They ate quietly without saying anything to each other.

Kevan kept placing bits of food onto Larissa's plate until they literally became a tiny hill.

These days, Larissa's appetite grew smaller and smaller, probably due to the fact that her meal intake had been irregular for a long time, as she usually ate only one meal a day.

"I guess … I'll just … eat more?" She picked up her cutlery again and only then did Kevan's expression mellow out.

His phone stopped ringing, and just as everyone thought that the caller had given up, a text message popped out. "Answer the fucking phone! Your daughter is in my hands!"

Kevan placed his phone on the coffee table. Larissa and Dylan were close to him. All they needed to do was to take a peek to see the message clearly.

Dylan's smile gradually froze, and Larissa agitatedly exclaimed in a reminder to Kevan, "Your daughter has been kidnapped!"

Kevan's reaction was the calmest out of all three of them. He gave Larissa half of what was on his plate before starting to pick bits of food for her again as if he were not aware of what had happened.
