After Bernard set the stage, accusations from the other members of the Rogers family came pouring in.
While Roland was alive, his obvious favoritism to Kevan offended many people.
At this moment, they wouldn't let go of the chance to humiliate Kevan.
Anthony had apologized on Kevan's behalf and tried to smooth things over, but his efforts were completely ignored.
Bernard pointed his finger at Kevan and demanded, "You didn't keep vigil for Old Mr. Rogers and even came late to the burial ceremony! A disobedient and disrespectful grandson like you has no share in your grandfather's inheritance!"
Kevan had been suppressing his anger for some time as he didn't want to cause a scene during the funeral, lest they disturbed his grandparents' rest.
When he heard his uncle's demands, Kevan snorted coldly.
"If my tardiness meant that I'm disrespectful, the incident that your family caused at the funeral service would be a bigger sin than mine. Now that you seem to be stirring up another commotion in front of Grandpa and Grandma's grave, aren't you being disrespectful as well? How can they rest in peace?"
The expression on Bernard's face froze.
Kevan dropped a bomb, "I can give up my share of Grandpa's inheritance."
Everyone who heard this widened their eyes with shock. A few couldn't help but start chuckling with glee.
Pointing at Bernard's family, Kevan continued, "On the condition that none of you can receive your inheritance either. That would only be fair."
Bernard's expression was as dark as thunder.
He spat with anger, "You unrepentant fool!"
Kevan smirked. "I could say the same to you."
Wiping the tears from his face, Edmund walked up to Bernard and tugged on his arm. "Dad, that's enough. Kevan didn't mean to come late."
After Edmund tried to defuse the situation, Bernard relented naturally.
At this rate, neither family would benefit if they were to confront Kevan head-on.
Glancing at Kevan with resentment, Bernard turned away in anger. "Fine. There's no point arguing with an ingrate like him!"
When Bernard gave up, the other family members didn't dare to say anything further as Kevan was still held in high regard within the family.
Kevan declined, "I can't go to the banquet as I still have some work to attend to."
"What, are you the only person who's busy? Do you think the rest of us are just idling around?" Felix said sarcastically.
Anthony also tried to persuade Kevan. "Stay back for the meal. It won't take up much of your time."
Kevan reluctantly agreed. "Alright then."
During the banquet, Kevan was the center of attention.
Many of the guests came up to him to strike up a conversation or for a toast, making Bernard and Felix's families grit their teeth in frustration.
However, the guests had a sense of propriety as most of them were important figures of the business world.
They avoided talking about business affairs, only offering their condolences to Kevan.
Kevan's uncles couldn't find fault with him, so they could only sulk in a corner.
