"Really?" The hope in Aster's heart was lit up by him once more.
"Of course, it's true!" Kevan answered seriously, and Aster rolled about in bed with joy.
Uncle Kevan was not married, which meant that his godmother was wrong. It also meant that when she said that Uncle Kevan was not Mommy's type, it might not be true either. So, there was a chance that Mommy might like Uncle Kevan!
Having gained this conclusion, Aster felt a strong drive to match his mommy and Uncle Kevan together at once.
But no!
He had to be calm and carry on his plan very, very carefully, and he could not let anyone know either.
…
The bodyguard sent by headquarters arrived early in the morning the next day and was already waiting on the lowest floor of Larissa's home. The driver who had originally been sending her to and from work was replaced by another bodyguard too.
The unease in Larissa's heart lessened some. But as long as Ruby was not convicted, she would not be able to relax entirely.
When Ruby was taken away by the police yesterday, it caused quite a commotion in the hotel. Although the staff was not entirely sure of what happened, they were able to figure out that it was related to Larissa and Aster through hearsay. Therefore, when Larissa appeared at the hotel with Aster, she received a good deal of sympathetic greetings from the crowd.
Aster retorted too, "I wasn't lost! It was Bethany's mommy who took me away forcefully! I just came out from the toilet, and she rushed over to cover my mouth and took me away! Then, she took me to her room and started beating me. She beat me so hard it hurt, and she said that I was a 'bastard', a 'stroke of bad luck' for making her not able to see Bethany. I was so scared that I hid under the table, so she started kicking me. I begged her not to, but she didn't listen …" As he spoke, he began to cry.
Larissa pulled him into her arms and comforted him gently, "It's alright, Aster. The bad woman has been taken away by the good police. She will not beat you again!"
Aster bit his lip, hurt, even as he buried his face into her chest.
Larissa looked up and locked eyes with the policemen. "You heard my son." She lifted the hem of Aster's T-shirt. "All these bruises are evidence of Ruby's assault on my son."
