As Laney and Garrett hugged each other, Janet watched from a distance. With a smile, she quietly left the room and left them there.
Struggling to keep her strong facade, Laney looked down to hide her quivering eyelashes.
She was once a renowned tough bodyguard. How could she cry like a little girl?
But she couldn't help but shed tears at the sight of Garrett.
Still, she tried to be strong and wiped her tears. "Why are you here? I thought you were working. You should get back to work now or your parents might scold you. The baby..."
Just as Laney was about to reassure him that the baby was fine, Garrett interrupted her.
"I don't care about the baby nor my work. Nothing is more important than you. Laney, just let me be here with you." He looked at her tenderly.
Then he held Laney's shoulders and put a soft pillow behind her back.
For some reason, something felt weird with his words and expression.
She watched Garrett pick up a red apple from the table next to him. "Let me peel an apple for you."
Laney didn't refuse.
"I didn't marry you because of the child. And I won't leave you because of it either," he continued to comfort Laney while peeling the apple.
He never even mentioned the word "divorce" even in their casual talks.
It was probably because the public had been speculating that Garrett and Laney would get divorced sooner or later.
"With or without the child, I've always loved you. God must have sent it to us as a gift. Don't you think so? But if He had to take it back so soon, it's okay. We will have another baby..." Although Garrett's voice quavered a little, it softened later on.
Embarrassed, Garrett looked the other way to avoid Laney's eyes. "I was just so worried about you, so I didn't have much time to think it through. It's not funny. Don't laugh at me, Laney. The baby will hear you!"
Finally, after laughing her heart out, Laney stopped and tugged at the sleeve of his shirt. "Why are you shy? Turn around. I have seen you cry before."
The truth was, she was even moved.
Laney looked out of the small window on the door. There was no one outside, so she figured that Janet had already left.
A smile appeared on Laney's face. She thanked Janet in her heart for what she did.
Meanwhile, Janet couldn't contain her happiness knowing that Laney and Garrett would definitely talk and solve their problem after this incident. She even hummed a tune on the way home.
The bodyguard was surprised to see her in a good mood after leaving the hospital. So, she asked out of curiosity, "We didn't catch the woman. Why are you still so happy, Mrs. Larson?"
