Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 989

Benedict quickly brewed the tea and brought it over, smiling as he poured his guests a cup.

“Well, a small thing happened and I left the research team. I also had a friend in this area at the time and I joined him to have some fun. I liked the culture and atmosphere here so I stayed and opened a bar.”

Benedict spoke as he poured the tea.

Whether he was speaking the truth or not was unknown.

However, Gideon did not push it.

When one was in a position such as theirs, it could sometimes complicate the way they interact with people. It was no longer as simple as the common man.

In the end, nothing much changed except for the awkward atmosphere in the room.

Nell took a sip of tea and smiled. “Fate works in mysterious ways doesn't it, Mr. Canterwich? To think aunt ended up in trouble in Gideon’s classmate’s bar. If we told people about this, no one would believe it.”

Benedict paused and glanced at her. “This young lady is…?”

Gideon introduced her. “This is my wife, Nell. This is my aunt, Jean. And this is Mr. Donnelly.”

Mr. Donnelly hastily shook his hand and chuckled.

Benedict smiled and said, “Ah I see. To think you’ve even gotten married.”

Once he found out that she was Gideon’s wife, Benedict had nothing more to hide.

He smiled awkwardly. “It’s quite embarrassing but I really need to apologize for what happened. The guy that died was a fighter in the bar and when I checked, his death had nothing to do with Miss Jean. But to pacify my men slightly, I called for a doctor to check. Don't mind that.”

Nell simply smiled. “Since you and Gideon are friends, of course, we won’t mind it. But I believe that your men already knew the situation without a doctor present.”

At that, the atmosphere in the room froze.

Jean was looking at them, confused, and unsure of what was happening.

Benedict gave Nell a look.

“You sure are direct and sharp, Mrs. Leith. No wonder you finally stole Gideon’s heart after he was single for so long.”

The icy atmosphere only lasted a moment before Benedict’s smile warmed the room.

He sighed and admitted helplessly, “She’s right. These men of mine are good people but they have bad habits they can't break. They probably figured that Miss Jean was a kind foreigner and rashly decided to push the already-mentally-unstable Willy to harass her, causing this whole mess.”

When Jean heard that, only then did she understand and she jumped up from her seat.

“So I didn’t kill anyone! It was your men that plotted it!”

Benedict smiled sheepishly.

Nell smiled too as she said, “They’re all master fighters. They’re likely very aware of these kinds of injuries. They all seem like friends so they probably spend a lot of time together and with such an obvious clot in the back of his head that even I could see, they probably noticed his unstable actions throughout the day. Headaches, dizziness, inability to walk, pale face, and more. They were well aware and guessed the possibility but still made him harass my aunt. Isn’t that just cruel?”

Nell’s words caused the color on Benedict’s face to change.

In fact, he was well aware of what she said.

However, these were still his men, and a bias was a bias. He wanted to sweep under the rug if he could.

He did not think that Nell would have pointed it out.

Only then did Jean let out a light huff.

The results of the autopsy soon came back.

As expected, the man died due to the blood clot in his head and not because Jean had pushed him.

The night before when he was in a fight, the enemy struck him hard in the head and he felt the impact but there were no external injuries or blood so he did not think there was anything serious. Only when he came back did he feel the dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

The other men noticed that something was wrong and on top of that, they were on even better terms with the guy he fought yesterday.

Even though the deceased was skilled due to his size but he was often discriminated against in the company.

Hence, they quickly hatched a plan to profit off his death.

Finally, they looked for a target amongst the crowd and set their sights on the dumb-looking and rich foreigner, Jean Leith.

She was just plain unlucky.

All she wanted was to visit somewhere new and blow some cash but she ended up getting targeted and framed.

The people wanted to keep it under the wraps, hence all they needed from her was some money.

However, she did not think she would be scammed.

Benedict sat there with a serious face after listening to the autopsy report.

The fighters knew that they had been exposed so they felt very uneasy, but now that everyone knew the situation, they could not walk away from this even if they wanted to.
