Nell’s idea was that the two grandparents were already so old, so they could not stand to be tired or noisy.
Lizzy was already 9 years old, so she was more settled. If the grandparents took care of her, they would not feel too tired. They just had to keep an eye on her schoolwork and accompany her daily.
Besides, Lizzy was a sweet girl. The grandparents were getting old and though they liked peace and quiet, sometimes they would also miss the company of their children and grandchildren. Thus, it was not a bad thing for Lizzy to stay with the old couple for a few months.
It was different for Little Viemond though.
Toddlers at the age of 3 or 4 were the naughtiest. He was always making a lot of noise in the house, so it would be very difficult for the grandparents to take care of him.
The Old Madam knew what she was thinking and felt sorry for Nell again. She patted Nell’s hand and sighed.
"Nelly, you've worked hard these past few years."
Nell smiled slightly and said, "It’s alright. It's all I should do."
Jean saw that they were so affectionate and felt a little left out, so she interjected.
"Yeah, Nelly’s been doing so much for the family all these years. Luckily we have her, else the house will be in a mess!”
Jean was not great with words, so as soon as she said this, the original warm and harmonious atmosphere became incomparably awkward.
Old Madam stared at her with discontent and said, "Do you mean to say that I didn’t manage the house well before?"
Jean was stunned and her heart fell with a “thud”.
She quickly smiled and said, “No, Mom, I didn’t mean that. I'm just saying that Nelly manages well."
Nell also laughed.
The Old Madam did not care much about household matters anymore, so the entire Leith family’s household matters were currently managed by Nell and Gideon trusted her. Jean probably knew that she could never manage the household, so she wanted to suck up to Nell.
Nell’s attitude had always been that if someone was good to her, she would reciprocate. She was also the kind of person who was not snobbish.
Thus, she did not make it more awkward and smiled.
"Grandma’s naturally the best. Aunty’s not bad either. Didn’t you invest in a business before and made big money?"
At the mention of this, Jean's face stiffened.
She quickly recovered and smiled dryly.
"Yes, I made money, but not a lot. I was just having a little fun. Anyway, I don't have any business sense, right Mom?"
Afterward, she deliberately sought the old lady's approval.
Old Madam snorted and said, "At least you’re clear on this."
Jean was accosted and Nell could not say anything else. When she saw that it was almost time, she ordered Aunt Joyce to serve the meal.
"Grandpa, Grandma, shall we go to the dining room for lunch?"
Old Master Leith and Old Madam Quinton nodded their heads and only then did they walk to the dining room together.
After the meal, the old couple went home first, but Jean was not in a hurry to leave.
She sat in the living room with her fingers interlaced. When she saw Nell coming down from upstairs, she got up in a hurry.
"Nelly, why are you coming down? You’re not taking a nap?"
Nell thought it was funny as she wondered if Jean was still here, how could she take a nap by herself?
However, she did not say it in the end and just smiled.
"Aunty, is there something wrong?"
Jean's face stiffened. She smiled awkwardly and said, "I… I do have a little something to talk to you about."
Nell nodded her head.
In fact, she had expected it. From the moment Jean had entered the door, she just felt that something was off.
Although Jean was friendly to her in the past, it had never been to the point of flattery. At most, Jean only gave her face and was amiable.
"Aunty, did you buy a mine?"
Jean suddenly stared at her with surprise.
She looked at Nell like she was like looking at a weird creature.
"Oh my! I knew that Nelly’s the smartest! I didn't even say anything. How did you guess it right away?"
Nell smiled. It was not that difficult.
Since the last time that Jean gambled and lost all of her assets, the Old Madam had been very strict with her finances, so she was much more honest in the past few years.
By doing that, she had saved quite a sum of money. Nell did not know how much exactly, but it should be at least hundreds of millions.
Jean already had so much yet she was still asking Nell for more. She also said that it had something to do with investing in jade, so besides a mine, there would not be anything else.
Nell was not against Jean doing this, but she knew that although Jean seemed to be smart, in reality, she was very simple-minded. If she was not careful, she would be cheated. Even a family as great as the Leith family sometimes would not be able to do anything about it.
As she considered this, she pondered a little and asked, "How much do you want to borrow?"
Jean smiled and gestured with her fingers.
"It's not much. 100 million will do."
Nell frowned.
One hundred million. Even for the Leith family, this was not a small amount.
She did not agree right away but said in a solemn voice.
"I need to discuss this matter with Gideon first. I can't give it to you rashly. If he agrees, I’ll transfer the money to you then."
Jean's eyes widened at her words.
"No! I've said not to let them know! Why can't you understand human language?"
