Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 1024

A sense of helplessness overwhelmed Nell as she went after Cathy.

Before leaving, she shared a look with Gideon, indicating that he should take good care of the children and don’t make out too much of what her mother said.

Of course, he understood what that look meant. After all, they had been together for so long that he knew her like the back of his hand.

Unfettered, he nodded his head.

Nell then followed Cathy into the garden by the backyard.

With a transparent roof, a greenhouse stood over the garden to protect the plants from excessive heat.

As the air-conditioning was always turned on, the plants grew well and the temperature in the greenhouse was moderately comfortable as well.

They went past the garden and when they entered another room, Cathy turned to face her daughter and said, “How did you meet Gideon? Why didn’t you tell me that he’s divorced with a child?”

Nell could not help but chuckle when she saw how furious her mother looked. She said “Mom, it’s not what you think it is. Have a seat and just hear me out first.”

With a tug, she gently pulled her mother towards the sofa as she explained thoroughly about her relationship with Gideon — from the first time they met until they became lovers.

Cathy looked much better after listening to her explanation.

“From what you said, it seems like he’s not the kind of person that fools around with girls. He’s not the irresponsible person that I thought he was.”

Still uncertain about their situation, a crease folded across her forehead. “Did he tell you about this part of his past before? Shouldn’t you have asked him more about this? Who is Lizzy’s mother? Do they still see each other now? Do you know anything at all about these?”

Nell kept her silence.

She herself did not know much about Lizzy’s background.

When she initially learned of Lizzy’s existence, she was quite taken aback by it and was reluctant to even try to know her, but that was before Nell got to meet Lizzy.

This changed when Nell finally met Lizzy, and it was love at first sight. As Lizzy eventually became the apple of her eye, she decided to bury the hatchet about Gideon’s past.

Nell felt that Lizzy was both obedient and somewhat pitiful. Moreover, strangely enough, both of them shared a strong bond with one another.

It was a bond that was hard to describe, yet no one could not deny its existence.

In her heart, it did not matter who the child’s real mother was.

The most important thing was that they both liked each other. Ever since Gideon dated her, he had not cast a single glance in another woman’s direction which, to her, was already enough.

Nell let out a sigh as she thought about this.

She knew that her mother only threw a fit because she cared about her. Since Cathy had already taken her as her own, it was understandable for her to be anxious the moment she found out about this.

She could not help but smile. “I don’t know the answers to the questions you just asked, Mom, but I do know that Gideon loves me with all his heart. He would never, ever cheat on me. That’s why I decided to let it go and not look into his past.

“Besides, everyone in this world has a past. Before Gideon, wasn’t I in a relationship with Jason Morton? Not only didn’t he dig into my history with Jason, but he also helped me out with so many things. Shouldn’t I at least return him the favor? Shouldn’t I bury the hatchet if it makes things happier for both of us?”

Cathy gave a slight frown.

“It isn’t the same.”

She lowered her voice. “You don’t have a child from your past relationship. He does. This is totally different from your case, Nell. What if her mother comes back one day? What will he do? What happens to you?”

By now, Cathy’s eyes had already welled up.

“What if time really showed you otherwise? Would you regret...”

“I won’t.”

Nell smiled. “Life is a long journey. No one is sure of what would happen next, and no one can guarantee that their next lover will shower them with more love than the previous one. I will never regret my decisions, no matter what the consequences would be. It’s because I know that at this moment, I love him and I’m willing to place my full trust in his character.

“You said that he will lie to me, cheat on me, and leave me one day, but that’s really my decision to make. I will bear the consequences of my actions and take responsibility for what will happen. Please have faith in me, okay?”

Cathy was at a loss for words. She did not know how to respond to what Nell had just said.

Though at that moment, she knew that Nell was not her.

The woman before her was smarter, bolder, and much more decisive than she would ever be.

It looked like Cathy was worried over nothing.

Thinking about this, she lifted her hand, smiled, and caressed Nell’s face.

“I’ve thought about a lot of things lately, Nelly. Since you were a child, I knew that you’ll one day grow up to be the smartest and bravest woman that I’ll ever know. Seeing you transform into her makes me feel so relieved.”

Nell nodded her head and smiled.

“I’m also grateful for a mom like you, Mom. At least I have someone who guides me and protects me from harm.”

All was silent as they stared into each other’s eyes. A moment drifted past until Cathy lifted her hands to wipe away her tears. She finally gave a laugh. “Alright, since you’ve already made up your mind, I won’t pester you about this anymore.”
