Even though he was busy, he had never brought money home.

Mrs. Alfuth and Uncle Ian did not think much into it.

Since he was already a grown-up with his own ideas and wished to save some money for himself, they were not opposed to that decision.

Hence, they had never asked him about his financial condition in these two years.

Some time ago, Shawn believed in his friends’ promise and invested in several huge film production projects at one go.

No one expected those films to suffer a series of losses. He failed to gain back the capital he invested in, much less earn great profits.

His company had only been established for a short period of time anyway, so how could it withstand such a predicament?

He had accumulated tens of millions of dollars in debt in a short while. In order to protect his own image in front of his family and prevent them from discovering his current financial situation, he chose not to borrow money from the bank but took out high-interest loans from private firms instead.

Those usurious loans naturally came with extremely high interest rates.

In the beginning, Shawn could still tighten his belt and pay off his debt. However, at the later stage, the interest became higher as it kept snowballing, and as time went on, he could no longer clear the debt fully.

At this point, the friends who introduced him to movie production as well as loan applications finally showed their true colors.

They kept forcing him to repay his debt, threatening to tarnish his reputation and ruin his career if he did not pay off the debt.

Shawn had never experienced something like this before, and it left him in a state of panic.

He explained to his friends in every possible way, but it was obvious that they came prepared, so why would they listen to what he had to say?

In the end, not only did they take away all his belongings but also his girlfriend.

They warned him that they would make him regret it for the rest of his life if he did not get the money as soon as possible.

Shawn and his girlfriend had been in a relationship for three years. The pair had a deep bond as they started dating in school.

Knowing that his girlfriend Sharon was in their hands, Shawn panicked right away. Even if he was required to take out so much money in an instant, he could not.

Originally, he thought of seeking help from his aunt and others if he was unable to clear the debt.

In the meantime though, his friends put forward a condition.

As long as he could steal that jade from his uncle-in-law and give it to them, they would let him off the hook temporarily.

Shawn had seen that jade before and thought that it was nothing rare. Seeing its quality, it would only be worth tens of thousands of dollars.

With that in mind, he agreed without thinking much.

Today, he originally wanted to take out the jade secretly while Uncle Ian attended the birthday banquet. However, he did not expect to be caught red-handed before he went to trade it in for his debt.

As he thought about this, Shawn felt a little frustrated.

After hearing his story, Uncle Ian and Mrs. Alfuth’s faces turned purple with rage.

“Why didn’t you tell your family about this huge matter? Even if you could deal with it by yourself, look at what you’ve gotten yourself into now.”

Shawn lowered his head and said nothing.

“Have you given the jade to them?” Mrs. Alfuth asked.

“Not yet.”

“Where is it then?”

This time, Shawn did not say a word.

Obviously, he was not willing to bring out the jade.

Uncle Ian was about to release his anger when he saw that but was stopped by Gideon.

Gideon looked at Shawn and said, “You won’t be so naive to think that you can leave with the jade after entering this house, right?”

Upon hearing those words, Shawn’s body trembled a little while he squeezed his trouser pockets with his fingers subconsciously.

Then, he looked up at Gideon with an expression full of despair. “But Sharon’s still in their hands, and I can’t let anything bad happen to her,” he said.

The Alfuths reacted to his words with an unpleasant look.

“I promise.”

“Then… Alright.”

He clenched his fingers tightly, then took the jade out of his pocket after a while.

Liam took the jade and handed it to Gregory.

Gregory took a quick look at it, and it really turned out to be the Arcane Jade.

He nodded at Liam. It was then that Liam had his people leave the house. He sat back on the couch next to him.

After crossing his long legs, he lifted his head to look at Shawn.

“Now you can tell me more about it. What kind of people are those debt collectors? What are their identities? How did they kidnap your girlfriend? Spill the beans.”

Shawn spent the rest of the time describing those people’s identities and their place of transaction to Liam.

After hearing everything he said, Liam immediately reached out for his phone and ordered his people to settle it.

In their eyes, this was not a big deal, and he did not even need to get himself involved in it.

The only thing was that it was inconvenient for them to leave immediately since his girlfriend had yet to be rescued, which might otherwise make Shawn become suspicious of them. For that reason, they sat and waited together.

Liam’s men found out those debt collectors’ whereabouts in no time.

They were instructed to only rescue the hostage and not care about the others. Those men rescued Sharon immediately after that without bothering about the debt collectors’ identities.

Shawn still had some doubts about him at first.

However, it was not until his phone rang and he heard Sharon’s familiar voice from the other end that he finally believed Liam was not lying to him. Liam really did rescue his girlfriend.

Shawn was so excited that he stood up while asking about Sharon’s situation.

On the other hand, the Alfuths were not reacting to that in a pleasant manner.
