Liam spoke and turned toward Gregory.
Uncle Ian turned his focus to him too, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Thus, Gregory told him all about the Arcane Jade’s origin and their need for it.
He did not hide anything. After all, Uncle Ian was a relative of the Griffins. It would be unethical for them to lie to the man.
Since Gregory needed assistance, he must also be sincere in return.
Hence, Gregory chose to come clean.
After going through the Arcane Jade’s origin and their reason for wanting it, Gregory added, “This piece of jade is merely a toy to you, Uncle, and it isn’t of much use. If you’re willing to part with it, I can offer you another jade artifact in return. Whatever you want, I’ll be sure to give it to you. What do you think?”
Slowly, Uncle Ian narrowed his eyes.
He was not stupid. He knew why Liam brought so many people along with him today.
He was aware that all of these people before him could influence anyone to do their bidding once they stepped out of this place.
Yet, today, they put down their pride and asked for his help.
To put it nicely, it was assistance they were asking for. To put it less nicely, they would resort to more aggressive means if they were unable to reason with him.
That would all depend on how tactful he was.
As he thought of this, he laughed in a resigned manner.
Uncle Ian shook his head. “Why did you have to put it that way, Mr. Graham? Speaking of which, I’m friends with your father, Mr. Harrison Graham. Of course, I’ll help you, but…”
He paused and directed an alert gaze to Gideon and Gregory.
Following that, he smiled. “I’ve always heard about how the Leiths and the Grahams are constantly at odds with each other. Today, it looks like President Leith and Mr. Graham are brothers.”
Businessmen like him had to keep up with the latest happenings in the local business world.
Else, trouble would befall him if the other party misunderstood him for some reason and targeted him.
This was why Uncle Ian brought up this matter.
Nonetheless, Gideon displayed a wan smile.
“What happens in the business world, stays in the business world. The goodwill and grudges among the past generation have nothing to do with the younger generation. You’re a smart man, Uncle Ian, so you should know what I mean, right?”
Uncle Ian was shocked.
Undoubtedly, he understood what Gideon was getting at.
Immediately, a twinkle appeared in his eyes.
“Fine, I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll get someone to bring it over and hand it to you personally.”
Then, he made a phone call.
Gideon, Gregory, and their companions let out sighs of relief.
However, something unexpected happened.
Uncle Ian screamed on the phone.
“What?! It’s been stolen?”
…
The twist of events caught everybody off guard and no one knew what to do.
Initially, they thought that this piece of Arcane Jade could be obtained effortlessly.
They were so close, yet the jade piece was stolen.
When they noticed the stark shift in Uncle Ian’s expression, Nell and her companions knew that he was not joking. The jade piece had indeed been stolen.
After he hung up, Janet asked hastily, “Uncle Ian, what happened?”
Uncle Ian turned around, evidently angrily.
He called a maid over and whispered, “Follow them and find out what’s going on with Young Master and Missus. Inform me as soon as you learn something.”
“Yes.”
The maid left.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Janet and the gang got into their cars and drove toward Uncle Ian’s residence.
Uncle Ian was a successful businessman, and he bought a luxurious villa around here.
Today was Old Madam Griffin’s birthday, and as relatives, almost all of Uncle Ian’s family members had attended the banquet except for his seriously ill wife who needed to recuperate at home.
When the group of people arrived at the villa and got out of the cars, a skinny, frail woman with a pale face and a coat around her shoulders stood at the doorway.
Uncle Ian’s expression darkened when he saw her and he rushed toward her.
He grabbed hold of the woman’s arms and chided her furiously, “Why did you come outside? Didn’t I tell you to wait inside for me?”
Then, he addressed the maids behind her.
“Is this how you’re supposed to take care of Mrs. Alfuth? It’s so cold out here, yet you allow her to stand here without any warm clothing on?”
The maids lowered their heads and replied respectfully, “Sir, we’ve advised Mrs. Alfuth, but she won’t listen to us.”
The woman heard the maids’ response and lifted a hand to stop Uncle Ian from scolding them further.
She forced out a smile and said wanly, “It isn’t their fault. I heard there are guests coming over, so I insisted on waiting outside.”
As she explained, her gaze fell on Gideon and his companions who were standing nearby.
“Who are they?”
It was then that Uncle Ian remembered there were outsiders around.
He suppressed his rage and introduced his wife to the guests. “Sarah, let me introduce you to these people. This is Mr. Leith, president of the Leith Consortium. This is his wife, Nell Jennings. This is Mr. Gregory Graham, the current leader of the Graham Corporation, and this is…”
