Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 1005

Shimon was very clear about the role he played. In this family, he was someone who belonged to the lowest of castes.

Both Jeff Flinders and Louis Flinders had the power to silence him anytime they wanted.

It would have been as easy as crushing an ant with your fingers.

That was why he would never speak up, no matter how curious or confused he was.

He was afraid that he would be killed for knowing too much.

Shimon Flinders was not naive enough to think that the Flinders family was as innocent as they used to be.

This 1000-year-old monster of an old man standing before him was already enough of a shock to him.

Although he still reserved some doubts about his age, it did not seem like Jeff was faking it when he plucked that thing out of thin air just now. At least, Shimon was not able to detect any foul play in his movement.

He could very well be 1000 years old as he said he was.

If that was true, then the whole situation could take a turn for the worse.

After all, a normal human being would always just be that, no matter how cunning and deadly they were.

Someone who had lived up to 1000 years though? Shimon was not even sure he could call that entity a “man”.

Not to mention, the last vestige of his attachment to the Flinders family vanished immediately after being told the truth.

It felt like his faith was crumbling.

Anyway, Jeff obviously did not care about his feelings.

He was in a bad mood at the moment.

It was the first time in so many years of his life that he did not get what he wanted. To make it worse, he felt like he had been humiliated after having been tricked.

This feeling would not sit well with someone as conceited as Jeff Flinders.

After a while, the old man named Mike went up to Jeff carrying a half-meter long box made of jade.

“Master, I‘ve put the Money Bead in the box.”

Jeff reached out, took the box, and opened it.

A shimmering Money Bead laid right in the box.

A few sparkling golden fruits hung from its branches. Those were what he took regularly as medicine.

Shimon gaped at the plant in awe.

He knew a long time ago that this medicine was difficult to procure. Even the influential families were only permitted to have a certain amount of it every year.

He thought the formula of the medicine was the cause for its rarity. Who would have thought it was made from a plant?

Truth to be told, the reason the Flinders family could come so far today with so many of them still living together was not just that the patriarch managed the family well.

It was also because the family members were all born with an illness that would break out anytime during their adulthood. If they did not take the medicine in time, death would be the only outcome.

No one was willing to die, so in order to avoid that fate, they could only stay close to the family and work on building the family’s business.

That was why the people of the Flinders family were destined to labor for the family’s business for so many years, no matter how wealthy they had become or how high their social status was. They could not go anywhere far if a cure for their illness had not been discovered.

This meant that Jeff had lived for 1000 years, and had been the patriarch for just as long.

For a lack of better words, laboring for the Flinders family’s business was equivalent to selling your soul to Jeff.

If one were to liken the family to an enormous machine, then Jeff would be the most essential part of it: the central system.

Shimon’s face grew pale with that thought.

He suddenly realized that he had been let in on too many secrets just by coming here today.

Not only was Jeff’s identity revealed to him, the medicine too…

This kind of secret would have caused an uproar in society if it was leaked. Those in the family with ill intentions would not hesitate to do exactly that.

Shimon nodded.

He could hear his own thundering heartbeats when he accepted the jade box.

That was the key to controlling the family’s fate for thousands of years.

How many of them had bowed under the family’s reign just to get a piece of that thing?

Nobody ever dared to defy whatever the patriarch said. If he demanded a certain amount of wealth from them, not one cent would be missing from the amount.

With the power he had, he looked more like an emperor than a patriarch.

How many people could enjoy that kind of privilege in today’s society?

It seemed like the opportunity to access it was right before his eyes now.

If he could cultivate the plant himself and breed more of it, then the people who used to take orders from Louis would…

Something startled him right at that moment.

It was as if his brain was pounded once by something heavy. He was jerked out of his thoughts right away.

When he finally came to, he turned and stared incredulously at Jeff.

He remained seated in his chair. His face looked serene and undisturbed, as if he had not just seen Shimon’s strange expression and peeked at his thoughts.

His gaze landed on Shimon calmly. Still, the latter felt as if he had been targeted by a venomous snake, and a chilling shiver went down his spine.

No. That was not right of him.

Jeff was not someone that could be easily dealt with.

Although Gregory used the Arcane Jade against him and threatened to decimate them, it was clear from their conversation earlier that Gregory had no idea Jeff was a 1000-year-old monster.

He told Jeff just now through the pinhole camera that the old man would join them in hell if Vickie and him died.
