The two made small talk, with Diamond mostly asking questions and Waylon answering.
In the process of that, Waylon went to the kitchen where Diamond could easily see him as he started serving the dishes.
"What did you make?" despite smelling the wafting fragrance of the food, she couldn’t help but ask.
When he heard that, his face broke into a smile as he looked at the several pots of food, he had prepared for one person.
Knowing how much the person he loves loved food; he was happy to go all out.
"I prepared several dishes," he said as he continued to elaborate further on what he had prepared.
Moments later as the dishes started coming to the table, Diamond finally got a look at what he had prepared.
A barbecue chicken with succotash. A dish with some nice golden chicken and lots of veggies.
Shortcut chicken enchiladas. She could smell the chicken, salsa and beans. The way it looked in that baking tray, her mouth was filled with saliva. Eager to take a bite.
Instant pot salmon with potatoes and greens. She didn’t expect to see fish but seeing it, she looked forward to filling her belly with it.
For dishes with carbs, he made spaghetti and meatballs as well as a large bowl with rice and beef soup.
There was a jug of freshly squeezed orange juice instead of wine. Perhaps he had seen how much she barely touches wine.
It’s not like she didn’t drink. It’s just that she prefers drinking when there is a special occasion. When drinking with a man she likes, it would be better if after drinking, she uses the drinking as an excuse to play rogue. If she can’t play rogue at the end of the night, then no drinking.
Anyway, the dishes were plenty enough for her to have a feast.
And that’s exactly what she did and Waylon who was used to seeing girls being so shy and trying to act like they survive on dew or salad. He felt happy seeing the food he had meticulously prepared wholeheartedly being eaten with so much gusto.
For a chef, the honor was brought by seeing the people enjoying the food without leaving anything in the plate.
"Thanks for dinner," Diamond graciously thanked, feeling very satisfied sometime later after cleaning all the plates.
She was only left with burping. Which she did her best to suppress.
Waylon smiled at her as he picked up the plates. "I am glad that you liked the food. I will cook for you more in the future," he playfully said, though he meant it deep down.
Diamond beamed at him and playfully responded, "Then I will hold you onto that!" meaning every single word.
She might be great at cooking but eating food made by others, she loved that more than the actual cooking.
Waylon was satisfied when he heard that answer and he started looking forward to that happening.
Diamond helped Waylon with the dishes but the young man was adamant at not letting her do the chores. In the end, she watched with beaming eyes, as Waylon handwashed the dishes, with his sleeves rolled to his elbows. Those hand muscles, she couldn’t stop looking at them and admiring them.
After the dishes, the two sat in the living room where the TV was on but weren’t exactly watching it.
Taking advantage of that moment, Diamond took out two tickets and gave them to him.
"Come and attend my concert if you are free. And you can bring a friend if you like."
Waylon readily accepted the tickets, feeling thrilled inward. He had been meaning to ask for permission to attend. He didn’t want to watch her from the screen when he could watch her directly.
Receiving the tickets, he was happy.
"Thank you, Dee. I will surely attend."
Diamond was happy to hear that. "I will be waiting!"
After the small tease, the two continued to engage in other topics. For example, since Waylon apparently was a student, Diamond didn’t forget that most universities were holding exams and since she and Waylon were friends, she happen to know that his exams ended today as well.
"How were the exams?"
"They were fine. Should be an easy pass," he said nonchalantly and Diamond raised her brows as she looked at him with a faint smile on her face.
Was he bragging right now?
The minds of good students were something that she couldn’t just understand.
If she could respond to him right now, she would answer him, ’So, am I?’
