“You look great. My daughter is always beautiful,”
“Mom, I need new clothes to go with this new necklace.”
Belinda smiled. “You have plenty of new clothing in your dressing room. Some of those have never been worn.”
That being said, she still handed a card to Celine and said, “You can buy whatever you want. Cheer up.”
Celine perked up upon receiving the card.
“Thanks, Mom. You’re the best.”
“You grew up by my side. Even if we’re not blood-related, I’ve always treated you as my own. Even Caroline doesn’t get such good treatment from me.”
“But you allowed Caroline to chase me out of the company and stopped me from returning to work.”
Belinda’s smile disappeared. She said strictly, “Celine, you should be grateful that I allowed you to keep Fisher as your last name instead of reverting it to your father’s. Stop desiring more. Don’t forget that if it weren’t for your father’s ambitions, Caroline wouldn’t have grown up in a farming village.
“You stole everything that should’ve belonged to my daughter. Everything is simply returning to its rightful place now. I didn’t vent my anger on you because you were a clueless baby back then. I kept you by my side because we’ve been mother and daughter for over twenty years.
“You must know how the public describes me now. Aren’t you aware of how good I am to you?”
Celine quickly apologized. “I’m sorry, Mom. I misspoke. I will be content and not fight with Caroline. Don’t worry. I really won’t.
“Go on with work, Mom. I’ll call Emma to come shopping with me for outfits to match the necklace you gave me.”
Belinda replied with a hum and Celine made herself scarce.
When she entered the elevator, she grumbled to herself, “What a load of crap about treating me as her own. She was simply trying to get rid of me with small, kind gestures. I only got a necklace worth a hundred thousand dollars, while Caroline received a new car worth millions. Look how biased she is.”
Since Belinda had said she did not want Celine to leave, Celine remained with the Fishers and did not return to her biological parents.
Moreover, her father was still in prison. It was unlikely that he would be released.
Celine’s biological mother was a farmer’s wife without many skills, same went to her biological brothers. No matter how hardworking they were, their yearly income could not even add up to the price of a bag she would buy on a whim.
Celine refused to return to such a poor family.
Knowing that Celine looked down on her birth family, her mother had never looked for her even once over the past two years.
Celine had despised her mother the moment she met her.
Despite that, she could still recognize her mother two years after their first meeting due to her good memory.
