The other bodyguard had taken personal leave, leaving Duncan with only one bodyguard today. Liberty was concerned that a single bodyguard would have trouble getting Duncan into the car.
The bodyguard did not refuse.
He and Liberty helped Duncan into the car. Once Duncan was inside, Liberty considerately secured his seat belt while the bodyguard fit the wheelchair into the trunk.
Duncan kept his eyes on Liberty as she buckled him up. Since the pair was in such close proximity, he nearly gave in to his urge to hold her tight. In the end, he managed to stop himself.
Liberty was becoming more like a family to him. His one-time reckless behavior might cost him all he had worked for.
“Mr. Lewis, you don’t have to take us home. The journey isn’t far.”
Duncan looked deeply into her eyes. “I can’t rest until I see you and Sonny safely inside the house.”
It was difficult for Duncan to let the mother and son out of his sight, let alone a ten-minute driving journey.
Liberty locked gazes with Duncan for a moment, her eyes full of unspoken thoughts. Yet, she said nothing as Duncan waited. She quietly backed down and closed the door for Duncan.
Duncan was not disappointed because he knew Liberty needed time to accept him.
Grandma May said that Liberty would come around so long as Duncan kept trying.
Liberty now had a different attitude toward him.
Ever since Duncan confessed his feelings to her, Liberty made every effort to avoid being alone with him in the same room.
Now, Liberty stopped running away from Duncan and spent time with him openly, unconcerned about the gossip behind her back.
Such was the change in Liberty.
Grandma May mentioned that Liberty’s failed marriage was the reason she was cautious with marriage. Even though Duncan was a good man who only had eyes for her, he should not rush her. He should wait until Liberty was ready, and only then could they have a future together.
It was a good thing the bodyguard was with them as they found a drunk man sitting and rambling in the elevator. Liberty was scared, but thankfully, the escorting bodyguard’s sturdy build gave her assurance.
The drunk man narrowed his eyes at the trio while still sitting there and talking to himself. He did not try anything.
Liberty pressed multiple buttons on the elevator, not wanting the drunk man to know where she lived.
As soon as the elevator opened on the first floor she pressed, Liberty immediately carried Sonny out, followed by the bodyguard.
The drunk man did not stop staring at Liberty the entire time.
Liberty heaved a breath of relief when the elevator closed. She told the bodyguard, “I have never encountered such a thing before.”
“Ms. Hunt, you might want to consider moving into the villa that Mr. and Mrs. York have given you. It’s safer there. Mr. Duncan also has a villa there, so it’d be more convenient for him to drop you home too.”
Liberty did not keep any of Zachary’s gifts after he married Serenity. She intended to return the gifts to Serenity who was the rightful owner.
