Chapter 1713
Duncan took a deep breath and another to stop himself from blowing up.
It did not matter to Liberty whether he was angry or not.
Liberty sat by the bed undisturbed as Duncan pounded the bed and demanded that she leave.
He was steamed up while she remained calm and watched him make a fool of himself.
Duncan had his pride.
He did not want to embarrass himself in front of Liberty like that again.
“Liberty.” Duncan’s dark eyes locked on Liberty.
Hiding his feelings behind his eyes, he coldly uttered, “You have seen how I am now.
I don’t need your help.
You can leave.” Liberty drew close and sat on a chair next to the bed before looking at him with a smile.
She had slimmed down and looked as beautiful as she was before entering her last marriage.
Her smile was pretty and soothing, easing the fury in Duncan.
“Mr. Lewis, are your hearing and comprehension fine?” Liberty asked.
With a stern face, Duncan answered, “I’m covered in injuries, but they do not affect my hearing and comprehension.” While all the other injuries were healing well, the pain in his legs was killing him.
“Great.
I was thinking of getting extra for my services if you have problems hearing and understanding me.
I told you that your mother hired me to look after you.
You can see me as the caretaker.
“Mis. Lewis is paying me a daily rate of ten thousand dollars.
It’s an eight-hour job with no night shifts.
I will leave when I’m off work, you won’t need to tell me twice.
Mrs. Lewis will just dock my pay if I leave now.
Liberty sat for a while before getting up to lie down on the bed for accompanying family and friends.
She had been bustling all morning, and now the tiredness was getting to her.
Liberty fell asleep before Duncan did.
He opened his eyes and turned his head to look at her.
She slept without the covers.
Although the weather was hot, the air- conditioning in the room was turned on at all times, and Liberty might catch a cold sleeping like that.
Duncan wanted to get out of bed and tuck Liberty under the covers.
Alas, he could not walk.
He dejectedly caressed his legs.
Duncan had to live the rest of his life in a wheelchair if recovery was not possible.
How was he supposed to provide her happiness when he could not even pull the covers over her? He should stay away while she had not yet developed any feelings for him.
