Horror-stricken, all the others exclaimed, “Your Grace!”
Caught off guard, nobody could react in time to go to Szymon’s rescue.
Everyone's expression varied as they stared at the dead duke and the hole in his forehead.
Many of Szymon's faithful subordinates pulled out their weapons and were about to charge at Nathan furiously to avenge their duke.
“Stop!” Piero, who was kneeling beside Szymon's lifeless body,
thundered.
Scowling at everyone around him, he reprimanded, “Have all of you gone nuts? Don't you know what will happen if you act impulsively? Do you think you can afford to cause a battle between the two countries? Even if Queen Annie were here right now, I bet she wouldn't allow you to act recklessly either!”
Piero's words were like cold water for those at the peak of fury. With that, they came to their senses and cooled their heads off.
Even so, some protested indignantly with fiery rage in their eyes, “He killed
Duke Szymon. How can we let him off like this?”
Piero replied resignedly, “Things have progressed to an extent beyond our control. Everyone, please don't act recklessly. I believe the royal family will resolve this matter and give everyone an explanation.”
Hearing that, they quietened down. It was known to everyone that Szymon's father-in-law was Jurgis, who was a prince and had the highest authority in the royal family. Apart from that, Annie had a soft spot for Szymon.
Hence, they presumed Jurgis would not let Nathan off for killing Szymon. Moreover, Annie would surely seek justice for the latter as well.
Nathan queried placidly, “Did she mention why she wants to see me?”
“No. She didn’t mention anything. However, my instinct tells me that it could be related to Szymon. President Cross, I have a feeling the royal family of Eagleland plans to settle the score with you.”
Nathan's lips curled up slightly as he commented, “Interesting!”
Colin asked warily, “President Cross, are you going to meet Queen Annie? Should we take Carlos' advice to end the interview and leave Eagleland before anything happens?”
Nathan added cooly, “We've stayed in Eagleland for two days, and it's about time we leave. Even so, it's inappropriate for us to leave without bidding them farewell. Thus, I guess I'd better meet Queen Annie before that. At the same time, I'm curious to know what she intends to say.”
Hearing that, Colin replied, “Yes, President Cross. I'll get our transport ready now.”
