His expression turned grim at once as he glanced at Kylie, who was drunk and spouting nonsense, before turning to look at Colin and the rest.
Noticing their shocked expressions, the man knew that it would be difficult for him to explain himself.
In order to prevent more “surprises” coming from the woman's mouth, Nathan stepped forward and carried Kylie in his arms, heading upstairs.
Under the shocked gazes of Colin and the rest, Nathan walked into Kylie's room with the woman in his arms.
Sage said in a whisper, “Umm...
Would Mr. Cross do anything to...”
Before the man could finish his sentence, Nathan emerged from the room and returned downstairs.
Startled, Sage zipped his mouth right away.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, the two housekeepers were about to leave when they were stopped by Nathan.
“Magda, take some hot water and help to wipe away Ms. Tonkins' sweat.
Make some tea for her to sober up as well. Be careful of her throwing up." “Yes, Mr. Cross,” the servants answered at once.
Then, Nathan turned toward Colin and Sage. “Follow me to the study room,” he said.
After the three men entered the study room and closed the door, Sage was the first one to speak.
“Sir, please don't worry. I will not say a single thing about what happened just now.”
“What happened just now?” Nathan asked, his expression darkening.
Taken aback, Sage froze for a moment before realizing what was going on. He quickly replied, “Oh, right. Nothing happened today.”
With a dour expression, Nathan said, “Stop acting smart. Let me explain so that you guys will know what's going on and not misunderstand the situation.”
Nathan started recounting the previous night's events to his two subordinates, including the fact that Kylie had almost drowned and that he had performed CPR on her in order to save her life.
After hearing Nathan's explanation, Colin and Sage finally understood what happened.
“Go ahead. Tell me who's behind it,” Nathan prompted.
Sage replied, “It's the Quillen family!” Although Nathan had already guessed it, when he heard that it was indeed the Quillen family who wanted his life, the man's expression changed.
“Does that mean it's Layden?" Nathan asked.
Layden was the city's new hero who had just returned. Besides, he was also the newly appointed Assistant Chief Military Governor.
As such, Sage did not dare to make an absolute claim. He replied cautiously, “Currently, we can only confirm that the Quillen family is involved, which means that Layden is also under suspicion. However, we cannot be sure that it was Cayden who hired the assassin to kill you.”
“Who else from the Quillen family could it be if not him?” Nathan replied coldly.
Colin and Sage kept quiet and did not dare to reply.
Nathan stood up and looked at the dark, moonless sky before speaking slowly, “It seems like there's really a problem with our returning hero. If not, there's no reason for him to try to get rid of me so hurriedly. I guess he was so shocked after I passed him that phone that he is finally showing his true colors.”
Colin and Sage both had grave expressions on their faces. If the city's hero, who was also the succeeding Assistant Chief Military Governor, was indeed a spy, it would definitely not be a simple matter for them to deal with.
