Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 2347

It did not take long for news of Jace's arrest to reach Yorksland, which created an uproar among the public and the authorities in Yorksland.

The authorities pointed their fingers at Nathan and accused him of overstepping his authority. They reasoned that he had no right to detain Yorksland's men and that their legal system did not apply to Yorksland.

Jace was influential in Yorksland, so he had many supporters who petitioned for his release.

However, it was a different scene among the commoners in Yorksland. When they heard Jace was arrested, they jumped with joy and spread the good news to their family and friends.

Jace was like a cancerous tumor to these people, causing them unbearable pain. No one in Yorksland could do anything to him, as he was powerful and influential there. It was a prayer answered when Nathan stepped in to rid them of that notorious scum.

Despite multiple appeals and petitions from the authorities of Yorksland, Jace was not spared, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment. As for his men, they were given varied jail sentences, depending on the severity of the crimes they had committed.

Back in Channing, Derrick Dean was enjoying his steak and reading the newspaper when he saw the shocking news that Jace was sentenced.

He couldn't help but frown. “Nathan may appear to be an idle man, but it looks like he is still quite influential in the army! Otherwise, how can one explain why he can easily mobilize a thousand soldiers to take Jace down?” he muttered.

Five men were standing respectfully behind Derrick as he ate. They were his top subordinates who had worked with him for many years. They were nicknamed D'Five.

Each of the five men had unique talents. Buster was blessed with supernatural strength, and Liamme, although crippled in one leg, could maneuver his crutches quite invincibly. Counsellor was well-versed in the Ancient Arts, while Quasi was so cold-blooded he could slaughter a whole village without blinking an eyelid. The fifth was Scholar, who was highly skilled in the use of swords.

Counsellor solemnly stated, “Master, Mr. Quentin Perez sent us on a mission to get rid of Nathan. I think it will be more challenging than we thought it would be.”

Derrick put down his cutleries, took another glance at the headline news, and nodded. “Yes, it will be more challenging, but not so insurmountable that we need to plan on backing out from the deal.”

They nodded, then shook their heads again, doubting the feasibility of that strategy. “All his men are loyal to him! Who will help us with that?”

Derrick took out a photo, and it was that of Thomas.

Derrick pointed to the man in the photo and gave them some background information. “This is Thomas Dunn. He was formerly a subordinate of Nathan. Although he is retired from the army, he still calls himself Nathan's man, and Nathan trusts him very much. Thomas is currently King of the Underworld in Channing. From what I gathered, he is addicted to gambling and had lost lots of money in the casino in Marsingfill.”

He continued, “I plan to contact my friend in Marsingfill and ask for his help to set Thomas up. We will make him lose lots of money, then pretend to befriend him and help him with loans. If all goes well, it will not take long for him to be ruined. When we make demands for loan repayments, and he cannot pay up, he will have to work with us instead. We can force him to secretly put poison in Nathan's food then.” After Derrick shared his plans, the five men's faces lit up, and they excitedly agreed it was a wonderful idea.

Gamblers addicted to the vice had no sense of kindness, loyalty, or pride. They would do anything to get their hands on money to fuel their addiction. They would have no qualms about cheating or betraying even their loved ones. It was not uncommon to hear gamblers stealing their elderly parents’ last savings or selling their wives into prostitution in order to raise funds to continue with their gambling.

Thomas, the addict, was the best candidate they could get to turn against Nathan.
