Bowen stared at Zach searchingly.
“Commander?”
“He's the friend I told you about. He's the guest I invited today.”
Bowen was dumbfounded.
So Nathan is his good friend? He said he's his guest today, so does that mean I'm not?
Bowen's face paled as he processed what was happening.
Before he could wrap his head around the whole incident, Zach had already approached Nathan, greeting him warmly. “You’re finally here, Nathan. I've been waiting for you to come all this time. We should really have a drink together now that you're here.”
“Of course. Anything for you, brother,” Nathan replied.
When Bowen saw their level of intimacy, he knew he was in grave trouble.
“By the way, Nathan, this is Mr.
Camden. Camden Bowen. Do you know him?”
Nathan looked at Bowen. “Of course.”
Fury flared in Bowen's eyes at
Nathan’s provocative tone. Of course, you know me. How can you not know me after what you did to me?
“That’s great!” Zach butted in.
“Bowen's my old friend. We knew each other since we were kids. We were just catching up in the morning.”
Zach finally turned to the man in the wheelchair. “This is Nathan Cross. He's the God of War. He saved me once and I'm forever indebted to him.”
Zach's words brought everything under broad daylight. At this point, Nathan already figured out that Zach and Bowen were classmates, and that the latter was here today to ask for Zach's help.
As for Bowen, he also had an idea of how solid a friendship Nathan and Zach shared.
Everyone was seated and the meal began.
Zach poured Nathan a drink, looked at him, and then at Bowen. “Here's to lasting friendships!”
“Since you've come to terms with that, I guess I'll just drop the matter,” Zach commented.
“Of course you should. Don't let it bother you.”
“Right. I'm happy to be in you guys' company today. Nathan is my trusted confidant and you're my old friend. I hope both of you can get along.”
Zach was implying that if Bowen could bury their hatchet and start anew, it would also benefit the Camden family. This was better than being at odds.
Bowen finally understood that the rumors he heard were all false.
Nathan was far from being the God of War who had fallen out from grace.
He still had extensive and reliable connections within the military.
This made Bowen think about Nathan and Penny’s relationship in a new light in the next half an hour as the three men dined together.
When it was almost time for him to leave, Bowen made up an excuse and left.
