"Sophie!" James stepped forward, placing a small box into Sophie's hands.
Sophie frowned. "What's this?"
"It's what I owe you."
James didn’t elaborate, so Sophie opened the box to reveal a diamond ring inside.
When she had married James previously, there had been no wedding ceremony or ring, just a simple registration at the city hall without even a reception. His excuse at the time was that he was too busy.
But tonight, James had delivered the ring to her.
Sophie frowned, puzzled. "Why are you giving me a ring now?"
"I neglected your feelings before. I hope you can give me another chance," James pleaded.
Sophie had not expected such words from him, but she quickly regained her composure.
"Are you doing this because of the Russell family?" she asked sharply.
After all, she was a Russell, and the new commercial plaza that Burke International was launching involved major investments from the Russell family. The new mall of S Corporation was a significant blow to Burke International, and he couldn’t afford a divorce at such a crucial time.
James' face changed slightly upon hearing Sophie’s accusation. "Why do you always think I have ulterior motives?"
He grabbed her arm, his voice dropping. "Can't it just be because..."
He trailed off, lowering his voice even further. "Because I love you." His voice was barely a whisper.
Sophie was taken aback.
"Admit it, James. You never liked me back then. Do you remember how much you despised me? Now you say you love me, but it's only because you've noticed that I don’t care for you anymore. It’s just your possessiveness acting up." Sophie looked at him coldly.
James wanted to argue, but her words left him with no ground to stand on.
"Back then, I gave you a sense of male superiority, but that wasn’t the real me, and you never respected that Sophie. Now I don't like you anymore. It's that simple."
"Even if I regret it, even if I say I love you now, it doesn’t matter?"
"James, there's no such thing as a potion for regret." Sophie pulled her hand away, declaring, "The Sophie who loved you isn’t coming back, and I will never fall for you again."
Pain was evident in James' eyes. "Not even a slight possibility?"
Her tone was as sharp as it was firm. "Absolutely not."

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
