Reborn Through Fire (Kisa and Gilbert) novel Chapter 1598

Just like them, Jensen was a trainee here. Yet, there was an innate air of nobility about him. The sight of his stern face held an intimidating power. The women dared not speak. Jensen stood beside Mia, casting a faint smile in their direction.

"Has any of you seen Hayes worry about a woman? Has any of you seen Hayes embrace a woman? Even if she were truly sent away by Hayes, she would still hold a place in his heart. If you want to remain unscathed in the McCray family's backyard, you'd better not provoke her. She's not someone you can afford to mess with."

Although the women were reluctant to accept it, they knew Jensen spoke the truth. Of course, they understood Hayes treated this woman differently, but they were jealous and wanted to bully her.

Seeing the women still glaring at Mia with resentment, Jensen chuckled and snapped, "Leave, now!"

The women gritted their teeth in anger, but they only looked at each other without daring to be arrogant anymore.

"Hmph, we'll go. What's so great about her, anyway?"

"Yeah, she's already been with Hayes, after all. You're the only one who values her."

"Right, she's just a broken toy."

The women muttered a few more resentful words before finally retreating to their rooms.

Jensen's expression remained indifferent. He looked at Mia. "Are you alright?"

"I don't want that!" Mia growled. "I've never wanted just a decent life. What I want is you, and a pure, untainted love."

Jensen stared at her, and after a while, he shook his head sadly. He scoffed. "People like us don't deserve pure love, Mia. Don't be foolish. For us, the most important thing is to survive."

Mia took two steps back, gazing at him resentfully. She laughed through her tears. "I know you're capable of loving someone; it is just that there is someone else in your heart. That's why you won't accept me. Her name's Kisa, right?"

Jensen's expression darkened a bit, a touch of coldness emerging. Yet Mia's smile grew even brighter, but as she laughed, the tears clinging to her eyes finally fell.

"Standing before you, I've come to realize just how unworthy I am. Yes, I've been struggling in this dark abyss since I was little, my soul rotting away. I can't even have a child now, so naturally, I can't compare to the one in your heart."
