Neil's words sent chills down my spine. I was super uneasy.
"Neil, do you really need to tarnish your image like this? You're not going to force me, right?" I tried to keep my cool as I pushed Neil away with both hands. I had no energy left to think about Bonnie’s overseas treatment.
“Is this really tarnishing my image?” Neil leaned over me; his eyes were blazing with passion, not anger, and his fingertips were trailing down my face.
Then he unbuttoned the top of my shirt, revealing my collarbone.
A shiver ran down my spine when he touched me, causing me to hold my breath.
The scenes from last night were still fresh in my mind. Neil was like a starving beast that was ready to tear me apart.
I still hadn’t fully recovered. If there were any more ‘intimate activities’ tonight, I’d be wobbly on my feet tomorrow.
“If you’re uncomfortable with my collaboration with StarGlow Enterprises, just tell me. I can back out. Why keep it bottled up?” Neil’s hand stopped on my chest, and his voice suddenly grew harsh, "If you're still hung up on Russel, I'll rip your heart out."
Honestly, I wouldn't put it past Neil to do something crazy like that if he lost it one day.
Before I could even react, I felt his hand slide under my dress. His hand was warmer than my body.
I struggled to sit up, "No! Not tonight!"
"If I don't put in some effort, how are we going to have kids?" Neil pinned me down, "Resist once, and we’ll do it once more."
"Have you no shame?" His audacity left me stunned; I even forgot to struggle.
Neil shrugged nonchalantly, "Nope."
I clenched my teeth and swung my hand in an attempt to slap Neil, but he deftly blocked me. His face was grim, "Don't believe me? I say what I mean."
My waist and thighs were still sore, and Neil's shameless behavior pissed me off. But he seemed even angrier, and his actions got rougher.
That night, I experienced the limit of Neil's shamelessness. Any resistance from me was countered with action.
He really did what he said. I feared his indulgence would leave him weak.
I barely slept that night, and when I woke up, it was already noon. Neil was gone, and I had missed calls from my assistant.
Dragging my weary body, I returned a call to my assistant, gave some instructions, and then took a shower.
Neil's rough actions last night reminded me of our days before divorce. Any time we ended up in bed, I'd be left bruised.
When I came out of the bathroom, my phone started vibrating.
I picked it up and saw that it was Russel.
Neil declined his call last night, but he was still calling.
Remembering Neil's threat, I wanted to decline but thought of what Bonnie said and picked up, "You moved back to Sterling Estates?"
"How did you know?" I frowned. I hadn't told anyone about this, including Stella Wallace.
Only Bonnie knew. Did she tell Russel?
Russel fell silent on the other end, then, after a while, he sighed deeply, "Why would you move there? Are you still in love with him? Are you planning to get back together?"
I nodded and walked in with Boomer. The apartment was spotless. It felt like a throwback to a day in the past when Russel was about to leave for a business trip and I came to take care of Boomer.
Everything, from the weather to the atmosphere in the room, was exactly the same.
Russel poured me a cup of coffee and offered me a seat on the sofa.
"Why did you move back here?" I asked Russel.
"After agreeing to get engaged with Chloe, my parents agreed to let me go back to the hospital and move back here.” Russel sat next to me, his voice clear.
So Russel's resignation was due to the Dawson family’s pressure.
I set Boomer down and took a sip of my coffee. After considering for a while, I asked, “Can you tell me the details about the question I asked over the phone?”
“So if you already know, why the heck are you asking me?" Russel picked up his coffee cup, taking a sip.
"Is it true?" My heart sank instantly.
Neil's words from last night were still ringing in my ears; his tone didn't sound like he was lying. I was a bit confused.
At that moment, Russel showed me a photo. It was a screenshot of his chat with Neil.
Neil’s message read, “I'll give you some dough; help her get treatment abroad.”
Russel responded, “The 'her' you're talking about is Bonnie, right?”
“Yeah.”
