Mateo knocked on the door of the hut. Hoping for something to get from here. After a few times of knocks, the door was opened by an old man.
He narrowed his eyes at first to see the man who kept knocking on his door and disturbing him and then his eyes widened a little in shock. "Th... the royal beta..." He mumbled.
"Yes," Mateo spoke confidently, holding his aura. "I am here to talk to you, Barton."
"Talk to me?" the old man gasped a little and in the next second, his old eyes flashed his fear. His eyes lowered immediately, "I apologise beta if I did anything to offend you or the Alpha King." His tone trembled.
Mateo shook his head "It's not about your mistakes, Barton. I am here because I need some information from a few years ago."
Barton raised his head a little in confusion. "Information? From me?" His old eyes relaxed a little even though a little bit of fear was still there. He nodded, stepping aside, "I don't know if I should, but if you don't mind Beta, please step in poor's little shelter, will you?"
Although Mateo has his aura and dignity, he is not cruel or selfishly showing off his pride. He accepted the invitation and went inside.
Barton felt so relieved, shocked and happy at the same time. He never thought the royal beta would even appear in his hut and even come inside.
He let him seat in the most expensive place of him, that was his little bed made of pine wood and he himself sat on the floor.
"Beta, how can I help you?" Barton asked, feeling happy and humbled.
Mateo looked around and then fixated his eyes on Barton's old ones. "I know you worked for Golden Heart's Alpha for years, Barton. You were one of the closest servants of the Alpha. And you know lots of things happened in the mansion."
Barton went back to his past memories and nodded his head. "Yes, Beta."
Mateo nodded. He himself doesn't know what he wants to know exactly. But, he can't let him understand and design his words in mind before speaking, "It is about the Alpha's daughter, Charlotte Leighton, who is now the mate of the Alpha King Augustus Sctenzo and the future Luna queen. What do you know about her?" He asked carefully.
Barton was silent for a few seconds but at the mention of Charlotte, his eyes lit up as he smiled, thinking of the past memories.
"Young Miss Leighton is the most amazing person I have ever met. She was kind toward all of us and used to be so close to all the servants. She used to think of us her family and when she left..." He sighed, "It was the saddest day of us."
Mateo could see the emotions on his face and then recalled Charlotte's behaviour. Well, Barton was right. Even though she was cold to Augustus before, she never misbehaved with anyone else but respect everyone.
He felt curious about the future Luna Queen of the kingdom, "Even after she couldn't shift, you respected her as the young miss?"
Barton smiled at his question. "It's the rule for us to oblige the words of our superiors. And we do it but in mind, we never forget to curse them. We do our work just because we were bound by the rules. But with Miss Leighton, we never cared if she was wolfless or not, we respected her from the bottom of our hearts."
Barton continued, "Because she was his own brother's daughter, he kept this news away to be revealed publicly and warned her to not appear ever on the pack. The beta also accepted the decision. But, Young Miss were never aware of this."
"I have seen The Alpha in sorrows for his daughter. He drank all night and I accompanied him. Only then, I realised he loves his daughter so much but his pride came forward and he could not show his love to her."
Barton sighed again, "After that Young Miss was taken away by the Alpha King and Alpha was so happy that his daughter was the future Luna Queen as the Alpha King accepted her and did not reject his wolfless daughter ..."
Barton looked up at Mateo, who was shocked, helpless, and raged but he was unaware of all of this and said, "I don't know what happened to Miss Carina now. No one ever gets any news of her. Just hope, she does not hurt Young miss again."
Mateo could not take it anymore and stood up from there and left the little hut. He got to know too much of it that he felt suffocated.
The moment he stepped out, he set free the struggling wolf of him and immediately a big brown wolf came out and howled.
His howl was filled with darkness and sorrows. Immediately, he ran into the dark jungle, piercing the heart of immense darkness.
As The old Barton stood at the entrance of his little hut, watching the enraged Beta leaving in his wolf form. Unaware of the turmoil his words caused in his heart...
