He did not expect Xavia to find out about it so quickly.
This matter had been playing on Hartley’s mind, and everything he had been worrying about had indeed come true. It took him a few seconds to find his voice: “Miss Lockhart, I knew I would not be able to hide this matter from you for long when Young Master Burton found out the truth that day. I’m sorry… I had no other choice. I did not want the young master’s condition to worsen, or reach a point he could not return from. I’m sorry.”
“Miss Lockhart, you can blame me if you want, but don’t give up on the young master because of this, okay? You saw it yourself—the young master could fall asleep tonight without the aid of any medication because of you. His illness can be treated! Please, I beg you, Miss Lockhart!”
Hartley dropped to his knees, bowing down to her deeply.
Xavia took a step backwards in shock.
A man would not easily kneel down in front of others because they had pride. She really did not expect that Hartley would be so loyal to Keith.
When she saw Hartley like this, she could not find it in her to be angry with him.
Most importantly, what hurt Zivon was not the so-called blood clotting disorder, but her own deception. She had teamed up with an outsider to test him.
Basically, it implied that Xavia would rather choose to believe in Hartley than Zivon.
As Xavia thought of all this, she felt even more distressed. “Get up. I’m going back to my room.”
Hartley was surprised. That was it?
He did not know that Xavia was not in the mood to think about all these things. Her mind was a complete mess.
After returning to her single room, Xavia took out her cell phone. She went to her call history to call Zivon, but paused uncertainly. What could she possibly say? He did not need her apology.
Frustrated and upset, she put her cell phone down. She walked into the bathroom and stood below the shower, letting the water wash away her troubles.
She only got out of the bathroom and went to bed at midnight.
The next morning.
Keith woke up with bright eyes and a sense of clarity he never had before.
Hartley knew for sure that Keith’s illness was healing. He quickly stopped hitting himself and followed Keith out.
The both of them went to Xavia’s room.
“Xavia?” Keith knocked on the door and said softly, “Are you awake? Let’s talk.”
He was greeted by complete silence.
Hartley grew worried and quickly apologized, “Miss Lockhart, I’m sorry. I’m willing to accept any punishment from you. Will you please come out and talk to the young master? The young master really does not have any bad intentions towards you, he really did not know about it. Miss Lockhart, please give us another chance.”
However, no matter what they said, there was no response from inside.
Keith adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, then slowly pushed the room door open.
What he saw shocked him.
