The question was abrupt, and the child’s voice was as clear and crisp as a brass bell.
The room went silent.
Zivon’s eyes immediately locked on Xavia’s face. His gaze was sharp and complex, and it felt as though he could see right through her soul.
Xavia clenched her fists, avoided his gaze, and hastily smiled at Maison as she said, “Aunt Dolly is just saying that the both of you are as harmonious as biological siblings. You should eat quickly, it will not taste good if it’s cold.”
“Oh.” Maison looked confused as he ate the croissants.
Strange. Why was what Aunt said completely different than what he had heard just now?
Xavia did not want to stay there any longer. As soon as they were done eating, she went to Yulia’s side and said, “You’ve already met Maison and eaten croissants, so isn’t it time for you to go home with me now?”
She really could not wait to leave.
Zivon scoffed, his expression frigid.
Although Yulia was reluctant to leave, she knew that her mommy had already been very tolerant towards her. She slowly nodded and muttered, “Mm. Brother Maison, Uncle Burton, see you again some other time.”
Maison hummed slightly in response, then turned to Xavia, about to say something. However, he eventually just pursed his lips and remained quiet.
She had just coaxed Yulia, so what was wrong with Maison now?
Xavia reached out and touched Maison’s head. “Good boy. Aunt will do a live broadcast every day in the future so we can see each other in my live broadcast room, okay?”
“Ahh! It hurts!” Unexpectedly, Maison cried out in pain.
Xavia knitted her brows tightly as she asked, “What’s wrong? Where does it hurt?”
Maison said, “Mommy pushed me and I hit the corner of the table.”
What?
Jenna had pushed him?!
When Zivon saw that the child could not answer his question, he naturally inferred that Maison had indeed been lying, and narrowed his eyes.
He could deny everything about Jenna except for one thing: she was Maison’s biological mother. Jenna had fallen ill after giving birth to him, so the child should show some gratitude towards her.
He said to Maison, “Aunt will never be able to replace your mommy.”
His tone was firm because he hoped that Maison would not discredit his own biological mother, but those words carried a completely different meaning to an outsider.
To Maison, it meant that Zivon did not trust him and he only trusted Jenna.
To Xavia, it was even more upsetting.
Zivon knew that Maison was only trying to set them up so that he could make her stay, and that was the reason why he told Maison the truth with such certainty.
In his heart, Jenna was the one and only Mrs. Burton, and that was an unchangeable fact.
To be honest, he did not dislike Jenna that much. At the very least, he recognized Jenna in terms of her identity, background, abilities and other things. That was the reason why he was willing to give Jenna such an important position in his heart.
